Description

Scope of the Role:


The Assistant Director of the Smith & Wesson Academy & Lead Range Safety Officer will assist with leading operations of the Smith & Wesson Training Academy.



Academy Operations Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Facilitate the ongoing operations of the S&W Academy
  • Continue the development and maintenance of curriculums and operating protocols for the S&W Academy ensuring safe and effective operation
  • Demonstrating, showing and servicing Smith & Wesson products to LE agencies, federal agencies, consumers and firearms influencers as well as, the US Military.
  • Assist with the organization, creation, and instruction of all Law Enforcement Training programs including Armorer courses and Firearms training classes
  • Establishing and maintaining effective business contact and communications with LE/Military sales team; coordinating shooting demonstrations and training for all LE customers. Maintain and manage Academy calendar and schedule.
  • Coordinate with marketing on consumer/PR training events and filming events at the academy.
  • If necessary, working with S&W Academy Field Training Group to get proper training for new and existing customers, and set up regional training opportunities with S&W Academy
  • On occasion, consulting on the development of new products to include design, positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners
  • Guiding preparation of academy activity reports and presenting to executive management
  • Establishing and maintaining a consistent corporate image throughout all product lines, promotional materials, and events
  • Representing Company at consumer and trade events to promote product when necessary
  • Analyzing and controlling expenditures of division to conform to budgetary requirements
  • Review and analyze company research, training feedback, competitive research to make continuous improvements to academy operations



RSO Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Providing basic instruction to novice shooters
  • Clearly identifying firearm malfunctions
  • Cleaning and organizing the shooting ports and ranges
  • Supervising and overseeing the operations of the shooting range and understanding range operations
  • Ensuring all security measures are being followed and the range is in compliance
  • Adhering to the range safety policies

Education and Experience:



  • 10 years of military or law enforcement work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years firearm training experience with progressive managerial responsibilities



Competencies and Skills:



  • Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing (basic verbal instructions, simple written memos and instructions)
  • Exceptional skills in MS Office Suite -- Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management, internal and external customers
  • Demonstrated proven public speaking and presentation skills
  • Strong firearms armorer skills and training background preferred
  • Ability to prepare, organize and execute large live fire product demonstrations
  • Demonstrated in-depth sales and marketing techniques and financial principles
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Must be able to pass and complete a basic firearms safety and marksman ship qualification course



Physical Demands:



  • Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, squat and walk
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds



Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:



  • Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.
  • The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:

    • Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor and range
    • The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
