Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's Land Engineering team is looking to add a Site Civil Engineer Designer to join their Watertown or Boston, MA office. The team specializes in land development with a multidisciplinary approach including civil engineering, environmental services, planning, surveying, and transportation. VHB delivers comprehensive solutions from site assessment and feasibility studies to permitting, design, and construction administration. They focus on sustainable development in residential, commercial, mixed-use, energy and public infrastructure projects. Using innovative technology and local knowledge, VHB ensures efficient, responsible project delivery that meets regulatory and community needs, enhancing the built environment.

Notable recent work includes major area "mega projects" such as Suffolk Downs, Dorchester Bay City, Cambridge Crossing, Allston Yards, 776 Summer Street, and other large mixed-use districts that transform underutilized industrial areas into resilient, transit-oriented neighborhoods with thousands of housing units, public open space, and upgraded infrastructure. Responsibilities

    Technical and design report writing
  • Work within a team of professionals in developing site civil engineering plans, reports, and specifications for a multitude of land development projects
  • Civil engineering for retail, residential, institutional, renewable energy, and industrial site design including grading and drainage design, utility design, and site layout
  • Preparation and/or reviewing design criteria, drawings, and specifications
  • Compilation of Stormwater Management reports, including Hydrologic modeling and pipe sizing
  • Preparation of schematic design, design development, and construction contract documentation
  • Assist in the preparation of permitting, design, and construction documents
  • Project task financial performance, and management of small or medium projects
  • Engagement in business development and client relations
  • Attending meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues

Skills and Attributes

  • Solid understanding of the typical land entitlement process including permitting at the local and state level preferred (Massachusetts)
  • Knowledge of local and state regulations governing site design preferred
  • Ability to think critically and creatively in a team-focused environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience in preparing graphics and maps
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, and StormCAD experience required
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-motivated

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering (a master's may be substituted for 2 years of experience)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional site/civil engineering experience
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) preferred

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $90,000 -115,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
