Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a Geomatics Intern to join its collaborative team in South Portland, Maine. This individual will provide support to the Geomatics team in the collection of field data and information related to the preparation of survey maps and CAD files. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of progressive technologies as you work directly with an experienced and dynamic team of geomatics professionals and interact with technical specialists in other disciplines.

This position requires regular outdoor work and travel. Travel would generally consist of extended field work and overnight stays.

Responsibilities

    Support the survey crew in collection of site and utility information
  • Gain exposure to UAS and scanning technologies
  • Support in preparing technical reports, survey plans and layout plans for projects such as utility construction, road and parking layout, and site improvements
  • Perform construction layout
  • Assist with office tasks including, but not limited to CAD drafting, data download, deed and map research, and filing
  • Maintain survey equipment and initiate repairs when necessary
  • Remain current on surveying practices, guidelines, and best practices; attend internal training to expand knowledge and skills
  • Perform other duties as requested
  • Overnight travel required

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering Technology, Surveying, or Civil Engineering.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions and occasionally for extended periods of time
