Position Title: Reporting and Data BI Analyst/Specialist Location: Hybrid (2-3 days in Arlington, VA) Other Considerations: U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Required) POSITION SUMMARY We are seeking a Reporting and Data BI Analyst/Specialist to join our Metrics and Measurements Team. In this role, you will transform raw data from various sources into clear, actionable metrics, reports, and visualizations that drive performance insights, support strategic decision-making, and highlight areas for operational improvement. You will operate at the intersection of data analysis, BI tool development, and performance measurement-cleaning and integrating fragmented data sources, building reliable reporting frameworks, and establishing consistent KPI definitions and dashboards to enable better visibility and accountability. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Informing and collaborating with programmatic and operational reporting initiatives across the team and stakeholders
- Gather, clean, validate, and integrate data from multiple systems (e.g., databases, SharePoint, SaaS platforms, cloud sources) to support metrics tracking
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and datasets for executive, operational, and team-level audiences
- Perform advanced data modeling, calculations (including DAX), and transformations using Power Query and SQL to ensure accuracy and performance
- Define, standardize, and document KPIs, metrics, and measurement frameworks to align with organizational goals and OKRs
- Identify trends, anomalies, and insights from performance data, and prepare executive summaries, briefings, and recommendations
- Implement data quality checks, governance practices, and monitoring to maintain reliable and trustworthy reporting
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs, translate requirements into technical reporting solutions, and refine metrics based on feedback
- Automate repetitive reporting processes and workflows where possible to reduce manual effort and enhance scalability
- Maintain technical documentation, data dictionaries, report specifications, and knowledge artifacts for team continuity and auditability
- Support ad-hoc analysis, root-cause investigations, and special measurement projects as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in business intelligence, reporting, data analysis, or metrics development
- Strong proficiency with Power BI (including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, dashboards, and report development)
- Advanced SQL skills for querying, joining, and transforming data from relational databases
- Experience with data integration, ETL processes, and handling data from diverse sources (e.g., SharePoint, APIs, cloud platforms)
- Proficiency of Microsoft 365 ecosystem integrations (e.g., SharePoint, Power Automate,) for workflow-enhanced reporting
- Self-motivated and resilient; persists through obstacles, objections, and setbacks while acting with integrity and strong character to build and maintain long-term trust with stakeholders, clients, and team members
- Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for data accuracy, trends, and actionable insights
- Excellent communication skills to translate technical findings into clear, stakeholder-friendly reports and presentations
- Ability to collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders to define requirements and refine metrics
- Strong attention to detail, data governance mindset, and commitment to quality assurance in reporting
Preferred (Nice-to-Have):
- Experience with additional BI tools (e.g., Tableau) or scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for advanced automation or analysis
- Familiarity with Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps) and working in iterative delivery environments
- Prior exposure to performance metrics, OKRs, or balanced scorecards in operational or programmatic contexts
- Certifications in Power BI, data analytics, or cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate)
- Experience working in complex, cross-functional environments; federal government, VA, or similar regulated settings preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 - 5:00 ET). Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs.
