DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Department Supervisor, the Front Desk Receptionist provides essential clerical and patient-support services within the Radiation Oncology clinic. Responsibilities include greeting and checking in patients, delivering a welcoming and professional experience, and ensuring all registration and insurance information is accurate and complete. This role manages multi-line phone calls using UCSD Experience standards, triages inquiries appropriately, and routes calls to the correct clinical or administrative staff.

The receptionist oversees all aspects of registration and insurance verification, collecting co-payments, and making daily deposits. This role also schedules patient appointments with a high degree of accuracy, and confirms upcoming visits while providing clear instructions and guidance. The position serves as a key liaison for physicians, nurses, therapists, and other Radiation Oncology team members, supporting smooth clinic operations and timely patient flow.

The role requires the ability to work across multiple computer systems simultaneously, maintain confidentiality, and uphold departmental service standards. Additional duties may be assigned to support overall clinic efficiency and patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of previous related experience in a large complex healthcare setting.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Experience with insurance, authorization, and referrals, including knowledge of third-party payors, including federal, state, and private health plans.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to interact well with care teams, and all patients and families.

  • Proficient in typing and creating well-organized emails.

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, time management skills and abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with the medical center's various computer programs, including PCIS, EPIC, IDX, RIS.

  • Experience working in Radiation Oncology, Oncology, or any cancer-related clinic setting.

  • One year of experience in patient registration.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $57,399 - $71,347 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.49 - $34.17

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
