Overview

INTERNSHIP DURATION: JUNE 2026 - AUGUST 2026

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Intern for Finance and Accounting is an exciting opportunity to gain practical experience in a dynamic work environment. The intern will support the departments by assisting with day-to-day financial and accounting activities while gaining hands-on experience in variance analysis, data reconciliation, month-end close activities, forecasting, and the preparation of financial statements and journal entries, while also supporting ad hoc reporting, and developing foundational knowledge of financial principles, systems, and organizational practices.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provides support in variance analysis by gathering data and assisting with identifying trends and discrepancies.
  • Assists with data reconciliation to help ensure accuracy and consistency of financial information.
  • Supports month-end close activities by preparing basic schedules, reports, and documentation.
  • Assists in the forecasting process by compiling data and updating supporting files.
  • Provides support in the preparation of financial statements by organizing data and assisting with required inputs.
  • Assists with the preparation of journal entries and supporting documentation for review.
  • Supports the development of ad hoc reports and analyses as requested by the team.

OTHER FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complies with all safety rules and cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety and safe work habits, to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
  • Complies with all applicable corporate and Hawaii Gas policies and procedures.
  • Maintains assigned work area and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed. Works in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Performs all other related duties as instructed by supervisor/manager.


Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing or has completed a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
