Job Summary
Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information, prepare financial reports, and perform job costing to support accurate project financials.
Main Responsibilities
- Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
- Support, promote, and practice the Company's core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
- Job costing responsibilities: set up and maintain job cost codes; track and analyze project costs including labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment; reconcile job cost ledgers to the general ledger; prepare job cost reports and variance analyses for project managers; support budgeting, forecasting, and change order pricing; prepare accurate invoices for projects; ensure timely close-out of jobs
- Reviews employee expense reports to ensure accurate general ledger coding, appropriate cost center allocation, complete and compliant supporting documentation, adherence to company travel and expense policies, resolution of discrepancies, and timely submission for processing.
- Reviews assets for annual property tax assessments to ensure accurate valuations, proper classification, and compliance with jurisdictional requirements, and prepares and submits all related filings in a timely manner.
- Prepare/coordinate reports required by regulatory agencies, e.g., sales and use tax, highway use tax
- Reviews fuel and equipment usage to ensure accurate coding, proper allocation to jobs or business units, compliance with company policies, and timely correction of discrepancies.
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions
- Perform statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes
- Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
- Conduct studies and submit recommendations for improving the organization's accounting operation
- Support monthly close processes. Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial reports to ensure integrity is maintained,
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, and project management to ensure accurate and timely capture of job costs and to support decision-making
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required * Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a clean driving history
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 1 year of accounting experience required; 3 years preferred. Construction-related or project-based accounting experience and familiarity with job costing processes are a plus
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries and concerns from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Ability to apply accounting concepts such as debits, credits, reconciliation, discounts, interest, commissions, analysis, etc.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill using spreadsheet and accounting software (JD Edwards, JWS, etc.); payroll systems; and database software
Physical Requirements
- Most work performed in an office environment; quiet to moderate noise level
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
- Sitting for long periods (up to 8 hours or more) at a desk using a computer; with intermittent breaks
- Occasionally required to stand and walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; visiting work sites may require walking over uneven terrain and some exposure to dust, chemicals and loud noise
- Some travel with overnight stays away from home may be required
