The Assistant Director, Prospect Management and Research, works as a strategic partner with frontline fundraisers to provide prospect research support, manage prospect portfolios, track prospect activity and collaborate around prospect strategies for assigned fundraising teams. Reporting to the Senior Director, Prospect Management and Research, the Assistant Director proactively works to expand the pool of potential prospects and is timely in responding to research requests from members of the frontline fundraising staff.
The Assistant Director must apply creative thinking and be curious, focused, and persistent in pursuing threads of information. They should be capable of interpreting complex documents including corporate proxy statements and foundation 990s and possess excellent writing skills. They must be able to identify and adapt to shifting priorities, be flexible and resourceful, and exercise professionalism and discretion in working with confidential information. Essential Functions: *Conduct research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of prospect research resources. *Prepare confidential biographical and financial profiles for members of the development staff, senior management, trustee leadership and key volunteers. *Analyze research requests to determine the appropriate level of detail required. *Rate the giving capacity of individual prospects. *Assist in proactively identifying prospects for specific initiatives or funding areas, with a focus on assessing capacity and connections to MGB. *Assist frontline fundraising staff in prioritizing prospect portfolios and encourage the timely review and assignment of newly identified prospects through reoccurring one-on-one portfolio review meetings and collaborative prospect strategy. *Identify and oversee necessary data integrity projects for assigned fundraisers/fundraising teams. *Facilitate the assignment of prospects to portfolios, create portfolios for new staff and reassign portfolios for departing staff. *Maintain accurate, up-to-date information on prospects and donors. *Track and disseminate news and information about top donors and prospects, identify trends, make connections, and interpret industry patterns. *With the Senior Director, aid in process improvement initiatives for the Research team and the entire Development Office. *Participate in Development events and projects as deemed necessary to support the broader goals of the department. *Continuously develop fundraising knowledge and professional skills through internal/external trainings, research webinars, and participation in local and regional professional organizations.
