Job Summary
Reporting to the Director-Residential Education, the Assistant Director-Residential Education, supervises complex multi-function programs, including one or more residential areas housing up to 3500 students. This position provides direction to professional and student staff related to guidelines, procedures and processes. Major responsibilities include the following: supervision, program development, administration, training and assessment. This is a critical position that also assesses the overall program offered to students in Student Housing and serves in an on-call capacity for student crises and risk management. - Bachelor's degree in psychology, communication, sociology or related fields and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Leadership and management experience in student housing operations and residential life programs.
- Experience in team development, conflict resolution, techniques of budgeting, managerial accounting, quantitative decision-making, advising, and discipline.
- Experience managing staff and programs that assist the department in maintaining excellent service to students and the community.
- Experience in working with concepts and theories of college multicultural student development, and the impact of a residential living-learning environment on student development.
- Experience responding to crisis situations and developing risk management policies and procedures.
- Personnel management skills to select, train, direct, motivate and evaluate professional/student staff.
- Organizational skills to develop, plan, and assess departmental goals and objectives; to achieve timely and accurate progress, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of productivity in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Counseling, Education, Higher Education, Student Affairs Leadership or similar field of study.
- Extensive knowledge of college student personnel, higher education administration, or a related field, demonstrated through education (B.S.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Verbal communication skills to lead and facilitate group discussions; lead small group training sessions; engage in public speaking; design and conduct innovative learning programs.
- Decision-making skills to independently problem solve and prioritize workload.

Department Overview Student Housing and Dining Services is a self-supporting auxiliary enterprise that provides housing and food service operations to undergraduate and graduate students who live in on-campus facilities, and retail dining operations for the campus at large. The Residential Education Office, within Student Housing, provides a wide variety of support and programs to over 10,000 on-campus residents, a 24/7 operation.
