Smith College: Massachusetts: Department of Biological Sciences Location Northampton, MA Open Date Mar 16, 2026 Description The Department of Biological Sciences at Smith College invites applications for a one-year, benefits eligible position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2026, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Teaching responsibilities will include an introductory Molecules, Cells, and Systems course and its lab ( BIO 132/133), as well as the possibility of an intermediate lecture and lab in cell biology (BIO 202/203). Teaching among these responsibilities will fulfill a 5-course teaching load for the academic year. Candidates with expertise in cell biology, physiology, and/or the biochemistry of cellular function are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with undergraduates of diverse backgrounds. A Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, or a relevant field is expected by the time of appointment. Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred. Candidates from groups underrepresented in science are encouraged to apply. In addition to a competitive benefits package, starting pay range for this position is typically between $74,200-$76,200. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.
