Focus: The Project Estimator coordinates pricing development for Government and Capital funded project proposals at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. This position develops pricing estimates that include labor, materials, travel, ammunition, overhead, and profit costs for projects that cover a wide range of total cost ($100k - $100M+). Projects scopes include facility construction, utility/infrastructure modernization, manufacturing equipment design/build, and process development. The Estimator collaborates with multi-disciplinary groups across the facility as well as with Project Managers, Schedulers, and Finance Managers within the Proposal Development team to ensure complete and accurate project estimates and to help prepare those proposals for presentation/approval of project stakeholders and sponsors.

Estimator Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop accurate labor cost estimates for modernization, process improvement, and innovation projects in industrial ammunition manufacturing environments
  • Review subcontractor quotes to ensure costs are captured accurately in project budgets and validity dates are sufficient for project timelines
  • Capture and organize scopes of work, subcontractor quotes, and price reasonability documentation for submission with Government proposals
  • Ensure pricing complies with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS)
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, safety, and procurement teams to validate assumptions and optimize project costs.
  • Maintain and update cost databases, historical records, and estimate documentation for all projects.
  • Support lifecycle cost analysis, funding proposals, and executive-level estimate summaries for modernization initiatives.
  • Develop Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) cost estimates for strategic planning purposes

Estimator Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree*: Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3+ years of cost estimating experience; experience supporting ammunition, energetic materials, defense, or heavy industrial manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with estimating/takeoff tools and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Pro-Pricer or other estimating software is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding manufacturing workflows and basic production equipment cost drivers is preferred
  • Must be able to work with cross-functional teams and maintain strict document/control procedures.

Location-Specific Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid state driver's license

  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. To meet the government-facility requirements, the candidate must be a US citizen.
