We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Senior Director, Organizational Well-being (Hybrid) on our Physician Satisfaction team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

This role is responsible
for the AMA's organizational well-being framework for health systems and the
primary architect of how that framework comes to life across activation,
advisory, and coaching work with individual organizations. They will be responsible for the convening and building the learning strategy that helps the
industry advance best practices, and ensure the AMA's framework for well-being
is accurately reflected in Joy in Medicine review criteria, Organizational
Biopsy question set, and self-service activation tools. This role translates
market insights into a coherent activation approach and maintains fidelity and
quality across faculty-delivered services and resources. This role serves as physician subject matter expert and brings practical experience to the team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Activation Delivery Operations

  • Define and maintain standards for activation delivery and develop capacity across the activation team to deliver consistently against those standards.
  • Oversee operational decisions that involve activation processes, preparation, and execution.
  • Cultivate a physician Faculty with the requisite skills and experience to serve as effective thought partners to health system physician leadership teams, including AMA health system members.
  • Cultivate relationships with CWOs at AMA health system member organizations, providing strategic support, guidance, and resources to help them advance organizational goals.
  • Chair the Joy in Medicine review committee in partnership with the Products Director.

Thought Leadership and Content

  • Lead and evolve AMA's organizational well-being conceptual framework, ensuring it reflects current research, market insight, and current clinical context.
  • Responsible for the thought leadership agenda that guides advisory approaches in the well-being terrain and informs AMA's point of view.
  • Ensure the AMA's framework is faithfully represented in Joy in Medicine criteria, Organizational Biopsy question sets, and other evaluative frameworks.
  • Represent AMA's well-being perspective in high-profile internal and external forums as a physician and subject matter leader.
  • Develop and refine activation tools, guides, slide decks, criteria, and self-service resources to ensure clarity and fidelity.
  • Ensure the Professional Satisfaction research priorities align with and advance the leading edge of well-being work in health systems.

Activation Strategy and Execution

  • Lead strategy, design and launch of a new activation service suite, including coaching, report-outs, and facilitated workshops for individual organizations and groups of organizations.
  • Translate market insights into actionable activation approaches and service offerings that support organizations at varying stages of maturity.
  • Ensure the well being conceptual framework, current clinical context, emerging best practices and activation strategy are consistently reflected across all touchpoints and processes across Joy in Medicine, Organizational Biopsy and any future programs (in partnership with Products Director).
  • Develop and lead a convening and learning strategy (e.g., CWO Forum, collaboratives, etc.) to advance field-wide understanding and best practice.
  • Collaborate with MMX, Marketing, and other business units to support clear value messaging, client acquisition, and appropriate positioning of the activation offerings.

Staff Management

  • Lead, mentor, and provide management oversight for staff.
  • Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating employee performance, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Responsible for developing staff knowledge and skills to support career development.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education: MD or DO required
  2. 12+ years of experience in leading large-scale change initiatives in a health system as part of the medical staff, including but not limited to senior well-being leadership roles.
  3. Deep expertise in well-being strategy and practice, experience with convening leading organizations to advance the field and translate that expertise into compelling conversations and deliverables
  4. 7 + years experience in people management required; able to attract and
    develop talent.
  5. Senior physician leadership experience with enterprise-level responsibility for clinician well-being, culture, or organizational health.
  6. Demonstrated ability to steward and evolve strategic frameworks (e.g., maturity models, assessment criteria, or operating principles) while maintaining conceptual integrity and market relevance.
  7. Proven success translating research, clinical insight, and market intelligence into actionable activation strategies, programs, tools, and/or learning experiences, from concept through delivery.
  8. Experience shaping and delivering thought leadership that influences senior leaders and advances field-wide understanding, including topics that are emergent or ambiguous.
  9. Deep understanding of organizational change in complex systems, including the ability to speak to both change management and specific projects or programs.
  10. Track record designing and leading high-impact convenings and peer learning environments that surface collective insight, shared ownership, and peer-to-peer learning among physicians and executives
  11. Executive presence marked by credibility, curiosity, and political acumen, with the ability to represent a clear point of view across internal and external stakeholders.
  12. Regular overnight national travel required; overnight international travel may be necessary on rare occasions.

The American Medical Association is located at 330 N. Wabash Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611 and is convenient to all public transportation in Chicago.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $289,680-$391,170. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
