Summary
In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Manager, Community Relations oversees the community relations team while developing strategies and programs designed to increase the knowledge and support of donation throughout the community. The person in this role will work collaboratively with the Director of department and play a vital role in building relationships with diverse community stakeholders and lead organizational development initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversees community outreach across Michigan, including developing, planning, and implementing events and data-driven programs to increase donor registrations.
- Establishes and cultivates partnerships to increase the number of organ, eye and tissue donors. These partnerships may include, but are not limited to, community organizations, governmental entities, schools and colleges, and healthcare organizations.
- Leads collaborative efforts by Communications Department members on national donation observances and other community outreach projects and programs.
- Helps guide Communications Department planning and strategy, including implementation and evaluation, and works with the communications team to create synergy between local events/programs and media outreach.
- Oversee budget for operating expenses and general meeting expenses related to community outreach.
- Collaborates with the volunteer coordinator on the recruitment, coordination, and retention of volunteers for events and speaking engagements.
- Works closely with the Secretary of State branch liaison and community relations coordinators for SOS outreach.
- Provides input on internal communications (material creation, intranet, newsletters), as needed.
- Documents Gift of Life's outreach efforts and results
- May serve as a spokesperson for Gift of Life Michigan, in coordination with the chief communications officer and communications manager.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee the day-to-day work of assigned direct reports, set and communicate clear expectations, and provide coaching/guidance as necessary.
- Provide ongoing formal and informal performance feedback, conducti performance reviews and/or corrective action discussions as necessary.
- Support staff in setting performance goals and in furthering their professional development.
- Support and contribute to the achievement of organizational and department goals.
- Support the bi-directional communication of organizational and department messaging between leadership and staff.
- Promote a healthy and safe work environment.
- Manage other tasks required of supervisors such as time and attendance, staff change requests, and reporting.
Education and/or Experience
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, with preferred coursework in public relations, social work, education, marketing, or communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least three years' experience focusing on organizational development, community outreach and/or marketing and communications.
- At least one year's experience in management or leadership role (project, team, workgroup).
Preferred
- Master's degree in organizational leadership or related field.
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Certification.
- Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.
