ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Accountant / Data Financial Analyst (Hybrid role) | Richmond, VA | Watertown, MA

Under minimal supervision, prepares, reviews, and analyzes financial data of a complex nature to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable reporting of financial results. Handles complex issues and problems. Also builds visualizations and reporting to build on a culture of metric-driven decision making.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

    Prepares and reviews reconciliations, for the subledger and general ledger account balances, including preparation of related journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Performs period closing processes and assists with the preparation of internal financial
  • statements.
  • Performs moderately complex analysis of financial data.
  • Investigates, researches, and resolves variances to ensure accurate financial results.
  • Responds to internal inquiries involving accounting/financial questions of a moderately complex
  • nature.
  • Monitors accounting processes and systems. Assists with the development of internal controls.
  • (e.g., risk assessments, reviews of risk areas).
  • Assists with the Identification and implementation of improvements to create a more effective
  • and efficient accounting process.
  • Assists in preparation for year-end audit.
  • Cross trains in processing accounts payable, cash receipt validation, and other accounting processes.
  • Assists in coordinating the development of reports for decision-making.
  • Helps ensure data quality, including process to clean data.
  • Tests the financial system during periodic system upgrades.
  • Acts as a liaison and collaborates between Corporate Finance, IT, and Regional Finance.
  • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and
  • VHB policies and procedures.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of accounting/finance principles, methods, and
  • procedures.
  • Advanced skills with Excel and data analysis languages, specifically SQL.
  • Experience using Power Query and Power BI.
  • Exposure to AI tools and concepts.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and
  • collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
  • Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4-6+ years of related accounting/finance experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent field
  • AEC industry experience is helpful but not required.
  • Experience in data management preferred

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Massachusetts is $85,000 - 120,000. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
