HJF is seeking Summer Head Instructors to plan instructional activities to include, but not limited to, lectures, class discussions, demonstration labs, and projects. Teach various courses and workshops to students.

This position will be in support of the STEM Achievers program. As the Summer Head Instructor, you will serve as the academic lead and mentor for a high-energy STEM enrichment program. You are responsible for bridging the gap between high-level curriculum goals and classroom execution, ensuring that junior staff are supported and students are deeply engaged. This role requires a blend of instructional expertise, personnel management, and administrative diligence within a professional government/university setting.

This program will run from June 22nd- July 10th with training from June 15th-19th.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Alter provided curriculum to meet the needs of the students, government location and work with junior instructors to implement.
  • Teach all course assignments as determined by the STEM Achievers Program team.
  • Manages Instructor tasks on a daily basis and mentor staff.
  • Attend STEM Achievers Program curriculum training sessions to collaborate with the program director program activities and outcomes.
  • Execute the STEM Achievers Program curriculum with high energy, integrity, and passion.
  • Plan for instructional activities to execute by junior staff, but not limited to, lectures, class discussions, demonstration labs, and projects.
  • Present expectations that are appropriate to the child's age and developmental level by providing a classroom environment conducive to learning; establishing and maintaining classroom control.
  • Plan and implement activities that develop self-esteem and social skills.
  • Submit maintain accurate records of attendance and submit in a timely manner.
  • Communicate appropriately and professionally with parents and fellow staff.
  • Attend all meetings, ceremonies, and official functions as specified by the Program Director.
  • Implement and comply with University policies and guidelines concerning academic, student, and staff conduct.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree; Degree in relevant program subject matter. Degree in an engineering or science field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to help program attendees grow in character, experiences and insights.
  • Ability to portray enthusiasm while displaying flexibility and remaining calm with youth attendees for STEM programs, working technical knowledge and ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to teaching in a multicultural setting.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach course sections as needed.
  • Working knowledge and ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Demonstrate experience in teaching in a multicultural setting.
  • Evidence of current expertise and technical competencies in the appropriate field of study.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an educational setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $35.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.

Employment with HJF is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, contacting your professional references, verification of previous employment, education and credentials, a criminal background check, and a department of motor vehicle (DMV) check if applicable. Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
