HJF is seeking an Instructor Support - STEM Summer Program to provide youth program instructional support and mentoring to program attendees. Serve as a role model, business strong connections and comply and enforce program policies, procedures and safety protocols.

This position will be in support of the STEM Achievers Program. As an Instructor Support, you are the primary bridge between the academic curriculum and the student experience. Your role is to foster a supportive, professional, and nurturing environment where students feel empowered to succeed. You will serve as a vital role model, demonstrating the work ethic and interpersonal skills necessary for success in STEM fields while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.

This program will run from June 22nd- July 10th with training from June 15th-19th.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Attend and participate in mandatory mentor training sessions and meetings.
  • Build strong connections with students and create a professional environment of nurture and support.
  • Serve as a student role model by demonstrating positive attitudes, respectful communication, appropriate attire and grooming, and a diligent work ethic.
  • Comply and enforce policies, procedures, and safety protocols set by the University and STEM Achievers Program.
  • Maintain all required mentoring contact with students.
  • Work independently and as part of a team with fellow peer mentors and staff.
  • Attend and participate in all training sessions, parent orientations, and staff meetings.
  • Assist Program Director, Program Coordinator and Head Mentor with resources for campus services.
  • Maintain confidentiality with any shared information.
  • Coordinate and facilitate social and STEM Achievers curriculum programs as desired or needed.
  • Complete formal program evaluations.
  • Discuss any student or staff concerns with the Program Director, Program Coordinator, and/or Head Mentor.
  • Adhere to the University policies and guidelines in all matters concerning academics, student and staff conduct.
  • Attend all special events as assigned, facilitating activities, interacting with families, and assisting with set up/clean up.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma. Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a two-year or four-year degree.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to help program attendees grow in character, experiences and insights.
  • Ability to portray enthusiasm while displaying flexibility and remaining calm with youth attendees, for STEM programs, working technical knowledge and ability to integrate technology into course workshops and delivery.
  • Ability to teach in a multicultural setting.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Home Office background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an educational setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay for this position is $18.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.

Employment with HJF is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, contacting your professional references, verification of previous employment, education and credentials, a criminal background check, and a department of motor vehicle (DMV) check if applicable. Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
