Who we are looking for:

Atkore, a recent recipient of a Great Place to Work certification and a Top Workplace USA award, is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to support our New Bedford, MA manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for the development, maintenance, and analysis of plant standard costs and manufacturing variances. The Senior Cost Accountant will play a key role in transitioning operations to an activity-based costing (ABC) model, while supporting month-end close, forecasting, and financial analysis.

This is a highly collaborative role partnering closely with Operations and Finance leadership to drive cost transparency, performance improvement, and sound financial controls.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Accounting and 5-7 years cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, and advanced Excel skills. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll do:



  • Support the development, maintenance, and analysis of plant standard costs and BOM (Bill of Materials) accuracy in a project-based environment
  • Analyze standard vs. actual cost variances and cost trends; recommend corrective actions to meet P&L and working capital targets
  • Prepare and analyze Excess & Obsolete (E&O) inventory
  • Perform monthly close and reporting activities accurately and on time
  • Prepare monthly forecasts and support quarterly and monthly financial reporting
  • Support inventory valuation and participate in physical inventory counts
  • Prepare and analyze product and product-line profitability, including material, labor, and overhead costs
  • Prepare general ledger entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Ensure compliance with Atkore accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAP
  • Partner with Operations to develop, implement, and monitor internal controls at the site level
  • Collaborate with the Controller and Operations Management on ad hoc analyses and cost improvement initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; CMA preferred
  • 5-7 years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing cost environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize financial systems and reporting tools
  • JD Edwards (JDE) and/or Hyperion experience a plus
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently research and interpret financial data
  • Proven ability to perform in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Strong business acumen and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing or a business-system-driven organization preferred


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete the Atkore Immersion Program
  • Understand how this role supports Atkore's Business System, Lean Daily Management, and Strategy Deployment
  • Build strong relationships with Finance and Operations teams
  • Gain a working knowledge of Atkore accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAP


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Independently support month-end close activities
  • Contribute to financial analytics and reporting
  • Prepare general ledger entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support development and maintenance of plant standard costs


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Assist in refining and tracking the site's activity-based costing model
  • Analyze standard vs. actual cost variances and recommend corrective actions
  • Participate in annual physical inventory

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $82,320 - $113,190. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
