Job Summary


The Clinical Research Services (CRS) of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) integrates clinical sites across San Francisco and Oakland to support research investigators. CRS offers services like Nursing, Sample Processing, and Body Composition and Exercise Labs. It is the largest NIH-funded program in CTSI.

The Nurse assesses patient needs, implements research protocols, and evaluates outcomes. Responsibilities include facilitating medical research, data/specimen collection, and protocol implementation. This position requires professional nursing knowledge, leadership skills, and effective communication with the healthcare team. The Nurse reports to the Assoc. Nursing Director or Charge Nurse and collaborates with interdisciplinary services.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $93.47 - $121.11 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Clinical Research Services (CRS) department of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) integrates multiple clinical sites across San Francisco, including Parnassus, Mission Bay, ZSFGH, and the SFVA. CRS provides a wide array of nursing and phlebotomy services to clinical research investigators in accordance with study protocols. CRS is the largest NIH funded program in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

Required Qualifications


  • BSN
  • Six (6) months of clinical RN experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Good Clinical Practice.
  • Skills and experience necessary to successfully complete blood draws as well as start IV lines.
  • Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population.
  • Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians.
  • Strict adherence to protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to use an electronic medical record system

Preferred Qualifications


  • Two (2) years of recent acute care hospital experience.
  • Prior clinical research experience.
  • Prior experience using electronic medical record system (i.e., Epic).
  • Prior experience administering moderate sedation.
  • Experience with chemotherapy.

License/Certification


  • Current CA Registered Nurse License.
  • AHA BLS certification.
  • AHA ACLS certification.
  • ONS Certification for Chemotherapy or Biotherapy or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
