Director of Auxiliary Programs and Services
(Dean of Students)
SUNY Broome Community College is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, salaried, 12-month, Director of Auxiliary Programs and Services in the Dean of Students department. This administrative position reports to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students.
The Director of Auxiliary Programs and Services serves as the primary liaison between the College and its auxiliary services and contracted vendors. The incumbent is responsible for the administration and oversight of all auxiliary programs and service operations in food services, Ice Center, bookstore, child care, vending, and coordination of the Faculty-Student Association (F-SA) Board. These programs and services have a significant impact on the entire college community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for planning, strategic goals, project management and results of the specified auxiliary programs and services.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for auxiliary service providers in Food Service and Vending, Ice Center, Bookstore, and Child Care, and ensures continuity of essential operations, such as food services, during declared emergencies or inclement weather.
- Manages all contractual relationships with auxiliary vendors, including regular meetings with each functional area director to ensure service quality and compliance with agreements while ensuring coordinated responses and communication during crises.
- Leads the preparation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and serves as the lead negotiator in contract discussions.
- Oversees and reviews the performance of contracted operations and negotiates contract renewals as appropriate.
- Coordinates with the College on contractor-funded capital projects related to auxiliary programs and services.
- Ensures all auxiliary programs and services comply with college policies and procedures, Board of Trustees directives, SUNY guidelines, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations for compliance and operational efficiency.
- Coordinates Faculty-Student Association (F-SA) Board meetings in partnership with the Student Development and Administration and Finance Divisions.
- Maintains a strong collaborative working relationship with the Assistant Controller of Finance.
- Prepares agendas, meeting materials, and official minutes for regular and special board meetings.
- Serves as an ex-officio member on auxiliary-related board committees and task forces, including Child Care.
- Supports the creation and revision of board policies and documents pertaining to functional areas in collaboration with the appropriate college divisions.
- Works closely with the Administration and Finance Division to recommend and implement approved policies and procedures pertaining to functional areas and to stay informed on auxiliary finance and budget matters.
- Promotes a customer service-oriented environment across all auxiliary programs and services.
- Collaborates with attorneys retained by auxiliary entities, assisting with contract reviews and negotiating modifications to terms and scope of services.
- Serves as liaison between auxiliary services and other college departments to promote operational efficiency and effective service delivery.
- Partners with Sponsored Programs to identify and pursue grant funding opportunities in support of auxiliary services and assigned departments.
- Assists in Title IX investigations when necessary and appropriate.
- Performs additional duties or special projects (i.e. assessment) as assigned by the AVP/Dean of Students, F-SA Board of Directors, or as needed to support the Administration and Finance Division.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in auxiliary management, small business, human resources, and/or retail operations.
- A minimum of one (1) year of leadership or supervisory experience. Preferably in a higher education setting, including grant writing, contract operations, not-for-profit board management, and knowledge of current auxiliary services trends.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Required Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of office procedures and practices.
- Effective communication with diverse groups across campus (leadership, staff, students, public).
- Experience working in auxiliary operations such as child care, food and vending, residential life, and/or student activities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to implement creative and innovative service delivery.
- Experience working in a complex organizational model.
- Proven track record of successful partnership management and contract negotiations.
- Sound judgement, professionalism, tact, and reliability.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
Additional Information:
The minimum annual salary for this position is $75,197. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
