THE POSITION

Are you looking for real world experience with databases? Application development not for you? Consider learning about Enterprise level Database Administration! This Internship will provide you with an opportunity to explore a career as a Database Administrator (DBA). Come experience first-hand the day-to-day workings within a large team of professional DBAs supporting the Departments of Health and Human Services and serving all Pennsylvanians!


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Database Intern, you will have the opportunity to rotate through all aspects of the database team supports. This includes Oracle, MSQQL, Unisys Mainframe, Azure Cloud, and Data Administration. This role will introduce you to SQL Scripting to access various objects, data, and data dictionary tables. Discover the importance of database backups, patching, and monitoring tools to ensure databases are always available. Other areas and features of the Database Administrator job will be explored as you become part of our team!

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Internship, approximately May 2026 through August 2026 with the potential to extend through the first week of January 2027
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. You must work from the office building in Harrisburg 2 days per week (Mondays and Tuesdays) with the Database team. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in college full-time (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits) pursing majors in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or other IT related majors.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be a Pennsylvania resident OR enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
