| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Launched in 2013, the Department of Applied Physical Sciences (
APS) is the first new science department in the College of Arts and Sciences in nearly 40 years. Including the Chapel Hill Analytical and Nanofabrication Laboratory (
CHANL) and the graduate program in material sciences, Applied Physical Sciences has united numerous scientific entities on campus to further its mission of finding interdisciplinary solutions to real-world problems. Its newest endeavor, BeAM (Be A Maker), is a university-wide initiative that incorporates Making into research, education, and entrepreneurship. BeAM is comprised of several spaces, including a makerspace in Hanes Art Center, Carmichael Residence Hall, and a 3,400 square foot Makerspace in Murray Hall, all of which serve the entire
UNC community. |
| Position Summary |
The Research Specialist in Professor Jinsong Huang's group in the Department of Applied Physical Sciences at
UNC Chapel Hill is part of a dynamic research group with focus on perovskite materials and devices. The Huang group has state of the art facility with recently renovated labs, including four research rooms for material process, material characterization, device fabrication, scaling up, optical and electronic measurements. The Huang group provides support for personal career development for a win-win scenario. The candidate will work on improving the performance of perovskite solar cells by understanding the materials, interfaces, and device fabrication. Although device performance is the goal of the research in many projects, fundamental understanding is the soul of this group. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Management Preferences |
B.S. in Chemistry, Material sciences / engineering, solid-state physics, or closely related field.
The candidate should possess independent thinking capability.
Be willing to take on a wide variety of roles.
Be able to identify potential hazards in the laboratory to undertake safe work practices.
Have excellent problem-solving skills. |
