Description

Our UCLA Health Spine Center is seeking to hire a full-time Medical Assistant III to join our Orthopedic Surgery Department. You will plan an essential role in supporting patient care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. You'll work closely with physicians and nurse practitioners to provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients across all ages. Key responsibilities include:

  • Room patients, obtain and record vital signs, and document care accurately in CareConnect
  • Prepare patients and treatment rooms for exams and assist physicians during procedures
  • Perform routine clinical tasks, venipuncture, lab tests, and specimen preparation
  • Support patient education and coordinate follow-ups, referrals, and prescription refills
  • Maintain clinical areas, supplies, and equipment to ensure a clean and safe environment
  • Respond promptly to patient needs and assist during emergency situations

Please note: Your home location will be our Santa Monica Clinic but you may be required to float to all our UCLA Orthopedic Surgery Clinics as needed

Salary range; $29.46/hr - $38.87/hr

Qualifications

High school diploma, high school transcripts, or GED

Current BLS Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Physical ability to push, pull, or carry 30lbs or more

Medical Assistant Diploma or Certificate from one of the following:

* An accredited Medical Assistant Program (ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP, or ABHES) or

* National certification for medical assistants (CMA, NCCT, or AMT) or

* Completion of a medical assistant program plus documented training that includes:

o minimum 10 clock hours each in administering injections and performing skin tests, venipuncture, and skin punctures

o at least 10 clock hours each type of injection (Intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal) and skin test, and/or at least 10 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures

o 10 hours of training in administering medication by inhalation

Strong understanding of normal and abnormal symptomatology and recognition of life-threatening conditions

Proficiency in CPR and safe administration of oral, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications

Skills in venipuncture, EKGs, and accurate recording of vital signs

Ability to assist with medical emergencies and office procedures

Proficient in computerized patient care systems

Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, and OSHA safety standards

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patient, families, and healthcare team members with professionalism and compassion

Flexible in performing both front and back office duties

Knowledge of setting up and assisting with procedures such as audiometry, spirometry, oxygen saturation testing, skin tag/mole removals, ear lavage, colposcopies, and flexible sigmoidoscopies

Ability to perform accurate quality control and waived testing

Understanding of biohazard and safety protocols

Reliable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to work overtime when needed
