Role: Controller (Temporary to Permanent)
Pay Rate: $70-$90/hr

Duration: 6+ Months - opportunity to go permanent based on performance!
Location: Long Island City, New York - *5 days a week onsite*
Overview

As the Financial Controller, you will serve as the backbone of our financial operations in a dynamic, multi-divisional environment. You will lead a dedicated team of three (AP, AR, and Payroll) to ensure absolute accuracy in financial reporting, proactive cash management, and the maintenance of "best-in-practice" accounting standards. This is a hands-on leadership role designed for a professional who thrives on process optimization and precision.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Team Management

  • Direct Supervision: Manage the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, ensuring the full operating cycle is executed with timeliness and accuracy.

  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and Sage software support to the accounting staff to streamline workflows and professional growth.

  • Process Improvement: Implement and maintain robust internal controls and standardized accounting procedures across all divisions.

Financial Reporting & General Ledger

  • Month-End Close: Lead the timely preparation and issuance of monthly financial statements, including comprehensive closing activities and variance analysis.

  • Ledger Integrity: Maintain total oversight of the general ledger and all subsidiary ledgers, including journal entries, transaction corrections, and monthly WIP reconciliations.

  • Job Costing: Execute the final monthly reconciliation of job costs and WIP to the general ledger to ensure project profitability is accurately reflected.

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Cash Flow Strategy: Develop and maintain 13-week cash flow forecasts and detailed cash flow analyses to support strategic decision-making.

  • Banking Operations: Manage all online banking activities, including internal fund transfers and external wire authorizations.

Compliance & Tax

  • Tax Administration: Oversee the filing of sales tax returns across all active jurisdictions to ensure 100% compliance.

  • Audit Readiness: Prepare detailed financial schedules and serve as the primary point of contact for external audits.

  • External Relations: Liaise with outside accountants, banking partners, and insurance brokers as the company's financial representative.

Budgeting & Analysis

  • Financial Planning: Drive the preparation of annual budgets and periodic reforecasts.

  • Strategic Support: Provide ad-hoc reporting and financial analysis as requested by the executive team.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a construction or project-based environment.

  • Software: Advanced proficiency in Sage and Excel.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA/CMA designation preferred.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
