UNC's Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies (
BCAS) is one of 20 national Alcohol Research Centers funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (
NIAAA).
BCAS faculty members conduct groundbreaking scientific research and are invited to speak at national and international conferences, and several have received
NIH
MERIT and Career Awards. For more than 35 years,
BCAS has been a leader in the search for the causes and prevention of alcohol use disorder (
AUD) and has worked to improve intervention and treatment for
AUD. |
| Position Summary |
University of North Carolina's Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies is seeking a proactive, detail oriented Administrative Support Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Business Officer, this role plays a key part in keeping our operations running smoothly by providing administrative, HR, and accounting support while serving as a welcoming presence for visitors, faculty, and staff.
As Administrative Support Specialist, you will:
* Coordinate building and lab access for employees and ensure smooth onboarding by assisting new hires with University orientation requirements, office assignments, and system access.
* Support offboarding by assisting with required documentation in accordance with University policies.
* Provide administrative support across the Center, including assistance with HR processes and maintaining compliance with University, state, and federal guidelines.
* Serve as a professional and welcoming point of contact for guests, faculty, and staff.
* Maintain and track Center inventory; coordinate surplussing and ordering of supplies and equipment.
* Assist with managing telephone system requests, updates, and changes in collaboration with
UNC Telecommunications.
* Attend University-sponsored workshops to stay current on new systems and processes.
* Provide comprehensive administrative support to search committees, including scheduling, candidate communication, travel arrangements, itinerary creation, and documentation management.
* Ensure all search activities adhere to University, state, and federal regulations.
* Assist with administrative accounting tasks and provide backup support to the Business Officer as needed. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
| Management Preferences |
* Basic office skills
* Understanding of State reimbursements and allowances, travel and itineraries;
* Ability to maintain confidentiality
* Self-motivating
* Ability to work in groups |
