Position Summary:
The Staff Psychologist/Clinician -
Coordinator of Alcohol, Other Drug, and Addiction Services serves as the
primary clinical provider for alcohol and other drug (AOD) assessment,
treatment, and prevention services within the Center
for Counseling and Psychological Services (C-CAPS). This role combines clinical expertise with program
coordination and leadership in addressing substance use and behavioral
addictions on campus.

The clinician is responsible for
delivering culturally informed, responsive mental health services to students,
with a specialized focus on substance use and addictive behaviors. In addition,
the coordinator leads prevention, education and outreach efforts in
collaboration with campus partners, promotes harm reduction strategies, and
contributes to the development of policies that support student mental health
and well-being.

Beyond direct clinical care, this
position plays a key role in community-level mental health programming and
campus-wide wellness initiatives. The clinician also collaborates closely with
university faculty, staff, and administrators to provide consultation and
outreach that align with the mission of C-CAPS and the broader goals of the
university.

The Staff
Psychologist/Clinician Coordinator
of Alcohol, Other Drug, and Addiction Services may
also provide clinical supervision to licensed mental health professionals
within C-CAPS. This includes clinical oversight for staff who engage in direct
student support and may encounter students in distress. The supervision is
limited to clinical supervision and does not extend to programmatic or
administrative responsibilities of other offices.

Competitive candidates
will have demonstrated expertise in the provision of mental health services to
a diverse population and culturally responsive treatment, and experience in
clinical and outreach services related to addictions with diverse client
populations. Job responsibilities
include providing triage, individual counseling and psychotherapy, group
therapy, diagnostic assessments, crisis services and outreach programming. In
addition, the position involves making referrals to and coordinating care with
other CCAPS providers including the C-CAPS consulting psychiatrist, referrals
to off-campus providers of psychological and psychiatric services and referrals
to university staff and faculty as appropriate.

Essential Functions:
-Clinical/mental health services:
-Provides initial consultation, triage assessment and therapeutic interventions such as short-term individual counselling and psychotherapy, safety planning and other treatment options.
-Provides group counseling/psychotherapy to students-clients.
-Provide direct clinical substance use and addictions services to students, including assessment, short-term treatment, and crisis intervention.
-Plan, implement, and assess prevention and harm reduction efforts regarding substance use within the student body, coordinating these efforts with other campus constituents. Assist with coordination of assessments mandated by the college following hospital transports or conduct violations (as needed and appropriate).
-Provides therapeutic support, acute intervention, follow-up, case management and referral services and collaborates with the C-CAPS Director and off-campus providers as needed.
-Provides crisis intervention, manages mental health emergencies (e.g. suicide threats, acute psychotic decompensation). Consults with director, other C-CAPS clinical staff and consulting psychiatrist as needed.
-Develops formal and informal lines of communication with NJIT staff, students and faculty including consultation:
-Provides support, training, and consultation to C-CAPS staff regarding substance use and addiction issues, as well as consultation to other university constituents (e.g. staff, faculty, students, and students' families) regarding substance use and mental health issues.
-Advise Director of C-CAPS regarding internal policies and external policies at the university related to substance use and other addictions.
-Provides focused psychological counseling groups and structured topical workshops around mental health, wellness, personal adjustment and human relations issues.
-Seeks clinical supervision from Director as appropriate for students with serious psychological problems and crisis intervention and as appropriate for other clinical issues and off-campus referrals.
-Engages in peer clinical case consultation.
-Provides clinical supervision toward licensure for C-CAPS mental healthprofessionals in accordance with New Jersey regulations and professional ethicalstandards for as appropriate.

Additional Functions:
-Responds to
psychological emergencies as needed.
-Attends C-CAPS clinical
group supervision and case management meetings as required.
-Develops formal and informal lines of communication with NJIT faculty, staff and students.
-Provides training and consultation to academic and administrative departments concerning mental health and wellness issues.
-Keeps up with professional developments in the psychological and counseling and outreach fields.
-Attends Division of Student Affairs and institute meetings and serves on committees as appropriate and needed.
-Participates in major university events/programs such as orientation, Open House, parent/family sessions, etc.
-Performs additional duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology with 1-3 years of relevant experience, and fully licensed or license eligible as a Psychologist in New Jersey.
-Master's degree and licensed as a Clinical Social Worker with 3+ years of relevant experience.
-NJ Licensed Professional Counselor with 4+ years of relevant experience.
-Experience working with a culturally diverse population.
-Training and experience in substance use/abuse and other addictions.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Professional experience in college or university counseling/mental health center.
-Background and interest in one or more of the following: suicide treatment/prevention, men's mental health/working with male clients, stress management/anxiety disorders, EDI/multicultural counseling/cultural diversity, substance abuse prevention/treatment, eating disorders, LGBTQIA+ issues, sexual assault/relationship violence prevention/treatment.
-Interest in supporting interdisciplinary collaboration across student support services.
-Experience supervising or mentoring clinicians in non-traditional roles.
-Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in NJ.
-Fully Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or Professional Counselor in NJ
-Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (preferred) or a minimum of three years experiencing providing alcohol, other drug and addictions counseling/treatment with a license to provide mental health services independently without supervision.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $73,502.29-$137,773.44 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
