Overview

The Vice President of Clinical Strategy and Formulary is responsible for comprehensive oversight of drug formulary management within long-term care. This includes analyzing drug utilization trends, developing and executing strategic utilization and clinical programs, managing data and client reporting, and ensuring the appropriateness of drug therapy.

The Vice President of Clinical Strategy and Formulary shapes formulary strategies to improve outcomes and optimize drug spend while providing expertise and reporting to clients on formulary design, management, and corresponding financial performance.

Required:

    PharmD with an active and unrestricted Pharmacist license, not state specific
  • 10+ years of industry experience in Managed Care, PBM, Long Term Care or Clinical Pharmacy
  • Demonstrated experience and success in
    • Formulary development and management
    • Pharmacy benefit design
    • Drug utilization management
    • Healthcare regulation
  • Travel 10-20%

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain drug formularies and clinical programs aligned with organizational goals and regulations.
  • Guide formulary strategy and drive innovation in response to industry challenges.
  • Monitor and report on pharmacy data, including utilization, costs, and quality metrics.
  • Implement strategies for cost-effective therapy and improved patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations through effective protocols and educational initiatives.
  • Support business development and client relations by providing clinical expertise and participating in reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimize formularies, develop programs, and manage strategic partnerships.
  • Lead educational efforts for healthcare providers to promote safe, effective, and cost-efficient drug therapy.
  • Champion initiatives to improve patient outcomes and reduce total cost of care.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer.


Qualifications

  • PharmD required with an active and unrestricted Pharmacist license, not state specific
  • 10+ years of industry experience in Managed Care, PBM, Long Term Care or Clinical Pharmacy
  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles, preferably in formulary development and management at a strategic level
  • Expertise in pharmacy benefit design, drug utilization management, and healthcare regulations
  • Strong strategic and analytical mindset, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable strategies
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across functions, both internally and externally
  • In-depth understanding of pharmaceuticals, therapeutic categories, and evolving healthcare trends
  • Willingness to travel as needed (10%-20%)
