Purpose
The Senior Network Engineer designs, implements, and supports enterprise network infrastructure across core and branch locations, ensuring reliable connectivity, optimal performance, and robust security. This role leads complex troubleshooting efforts, architects scalable network solutions, and leverages automation and AI-driven tools to enhance operational efficiency while maintaining comprehensive documentation and providing escalation support for critical issues.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
  1. Design, implement, and support enterprise wired and wireless network infrastructure across core and branch locations to ensure reliable connectivity and optimal performance.
  2. Lead troubleshooting efforts and conduct root cause analysis on complex security incidents and firewall-related issues, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  3. Architect and maintain remote connectivity solutions, VPN infrastructure, and ISP connections to support secure and seamless access for distributed users and locations.
  4. Implement system enhancements that improve network reliability, security posture, and overall performance while aligning with business objectives and industry best practices.
  5. Maintain network hardware and software currency by ensuring appropriate security patches, firmware updates, and configuration standards are consistently applied.
  6. Monitor network health through performance metrics and diagnostics, recommending and implementing solutions to improve security, performance, and cost efficiency.
  7. Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including network diagrams, standard operating procedures, and configuration guidelines to support operational excellence.
  8. Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, vendor product updates, and industry best practices to proactively address vulnerabilities and leverage new capabilities.
  9. Leverage AI-driven tools and automation technologies to enhance operational efficiency, improve scalability, and reduce manual intervention in routine network management tasks.
  10. Participate in on-call rotation to provide escalation support for critical networking issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal business impact.

Role Qualifications & Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, MIS, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Professional certifications such as the Cisco Certified Network Expert (CCNP) or similar highly desirable.

Experience and Industry Expertise:
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in enterprise networking, with extensive hands-on experience designing, operating, and supporting WAN and LAN infrastructures, routing and switching platforms, firewalls, and network management tools.

Specific Job Requirements:
  • Advanced proficiency with Cisco infrastructure (switches, routers, voice gateways, ASA/Firepower firewalls, FMC, Unified Communications, VPN, Umbrella, wireless access points) and Fortinet ecosystem (FortiGate, FortiNAC, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer).
  • Advanced understanding of core networking protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, NAT, DMVPN, VPN, DNS, SNMP, EIGRP, RADIUS, DHCP, IPSec, SSL, 802.1x, and VoIP.
  • Deep knowledge of wireless technologies including 802.11 standards, RF fundamentals, LTE/5G, and satellite connectivity.
  • Hands-on experience implementing Network Access Control, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), SASE, SSL/TLS decryption, and microsegmentation solutions.
  • Strong experience with cloud networking architectures, connectivity, and security in enterprise environments, including SD-WAN technologies.
  • Proficiency in network monitoring, performance management, and traffic analysis platforms including SIEM, NetFlow, and Syslog.
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI and automation in operational network management, security analytics, and policy optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of network automation and infrastructure-as-code using scripting and automation frameworks, APIs, and automation interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra Active Directory, Intune, and Security products.
  • Strong problem analysis capabilities with ability to develop cost-effective solutions that balance technical requirements with business needs.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven vendor and consultant negotiation skills to secure optimal solutions and partnerships.
  • Strong project management capabilities with ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Occasional travel including some overnight travel required.

Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment

Equipment Used:
  • General office equipment, telephone, automobile, personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, hearing protection) when visiting plants.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical: Sitting for long periods of time working on the computer or attending meetings. Job site visits require walking on uneven ground, steep slopes, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Some lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Work Environment: Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Demands of meeting tight deadlines. Exposed to the conditions of job sites which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions prevalent at the time. May work various hours, including early mornings, dusk or evenings.

BASE SALARY RANGE:
$137,500.00 - $192,500.00
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
