Position Overview

The Director, Data Platforms will lead the continued modernization and scale of the Snowflake data platform powering Zelis' Member Experience and Transparency solutions.

This leader is responsible for strengthening Snowflake architecture, advancing BI modernization (including Sigma migration), enabling AI-ready infrastructure, and ensuring secure, compliant, and high-performing cloud data operations.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring architectural depth, migration experience, AI enablement expertise, and strong cross-functional partnership.

What you'll do:

Snowflake Architecture & Modernization

  • Lead the architecture, optimization, and scaling of the Snowflake data platform supporting Member Experience and Transparency solutions.

  • Drive modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy data environments to Snowflake.

  • Conduct architecture reviews and influence technical direction through strong engineering conversations.

  • Establish best practices for performance tuning, workload management, cost optimization, and resiliency.

  • Ensure scalable ELT frameworks and modern data engineering standards.

BI Modernization & Sigma Migration

  • Drive BI transformation initiatives, including Sigma migration and modernization.

  • Improve performance, usability, and reliability of reporting solutions that power member-facing transparency insights.

  • Partner with analytics and product teams to evolve BI capabilities aligned to business needs.

AI Enablement & Agentic AI Transformation

  • Architect AI-ready data infrastructure that supports advanced analytics and emerging AI use cases.

  • Enable AI-driven productivity within engineering and analytics teams.

  • Design data foundations that support agentic AI systems driving workflow automation and intelligent decision-making.

  • Establish governance guardrails to ensure responsible, secure AI deployment.

  • Partner with product and engineering leaders to embed AI capabilities within transparency and member experience solutions.

Cloud, Security & Governance

  • Ensure secure, compliant Snowflake environments aligned to healthcare and regulatory standards (including HIPAA).

  • Implement robust RBAC models, data masking, lineage tracking, and auditing capabilities in line with the enterprise Infosec guidelines.

  • Partner with Cloud and Security teams to align data platform strategy with enterprise cloud architecture.

  • Lead cost governance and resource optimization across ME&T BU Snowflake environments.

Enterprise Partnership & Technical Influence

  • Serve as a strategic technical partner across Product, Engineering, Security, and Business stakeholders.

  • Translate business priorities into scalable platform capabilities.

  • Influence platform direction through architectural rigor and strong technical communication.

  • Align platform evolution with Member Experience and Transparency objectives.

What you'll bring to Zelis:

  • 10+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data platform architecture.

  • 5+ years hands-on experience leading Snowflake environments at scale.

  • Proven experience leading Snowflake migrations and modernization initiatives.

  • Experience modernizing BI platforms, including Sigma migration.

  • Deep expertise in:

  • Snowflake performance optimization and architecture design

  • Cloud-native data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • ELT orchestration, data modeling, and CI/CD practices

  • Governance, lineage, and security frameworks

  • Experience enabling AI/ML data workflows and supporting AI transformation initiatives.

  • Strong understanding of scalable architecture for AI-enabled and agentic systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence through technical depth and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Experience in healthcare fintech or regulated environments preferred.

Location and Workplace Flexibility

We have offices in Atlanta GA, Boston MA, Morristown NJ, Plano TX, St. Louis MO, St. Petersburg FL, and Hyderabad, India. We foster a hybrid and remote friendly culture, and all our employee's work locations are based on the needs of the position and determined by the Leadership team. In-office work and activities, if applicable, vary based on the work and team objectives in accordance with Company policies.

Base Salary Range

$169,000.00 - $213,750.00

At Zelis we are committed to providing fair and equitable compensation packages. The base salary range allows us to make an offer that considers multiple individualized factors, including experience, education, qualifications, as well as job-related and industry-related knowledge and skills, etc. Base pay is just one part of our Total Rewards package, which may also include discretionary bonus plans, commissions, or other incentives depending on the role.
