HDR is looking for a Plumbing Specialist to join our Building Engineering Services team in Denver, Colorado. Our team is looking for a candidate to meet the demands of our client base including Science and Technology, Mission Critical and Commercial projects. We are actively seeking candidates with experience within the mission critical environment, but similar project types will also be considered for previous experience. This individual should also have a desire to mentor and train younger plumbing designers. The Plumbing Designer will be responsible for designing projects from start to finish. This will include coordinating and working closely with clients, project managers, mechanical team members, architects, other engineering disciplines, contractors, marketing members, and all other team members. They will be responsible for developing feasibility reports, construction documents, specifications, engineering calculations, and performing RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, site investigation and overall construction administration. Passion, self-motivation, and strong leadership skills are a must to deliver technically excellent design solutions for our clients. Additional responsibilities include: Primary Duties:
- Mentoring/Managing:
- Help grow a team that works together to create a collaborative environment that promotes career growth, the production of high-quality construction documents, client satisfaction, and acts as a safety net for each other.
- Coordinate the work of Plumbing Engineers, EITs, and BIM Specialists with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project's development.
- Mentor, organize, and facilitate the growth of junior staff.
- Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
- Technical:
- Assume a substantial role in plumbing design for projects.
- Work with clients to understand their project specific requirements around reliability, growth increments, first cost versus life cycle costs, sustainability, construction schedules, and future flexibility.
- Providing detailed design and coordination with multidisciplinary team members
- Attend design meetings with other team members and lead plumbing discussions in the meetings.
- Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and other disciplines.
- Produce code conforming designs and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
- Design support during construction including field observations, submittal & shop drawing review, Request for Information (RFI) support.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Travel: Some travel to job sites or other HDR offices could be required. This would be communicated in advance to give adequate coordination time with project work and personal life.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline.
- Successful completion of a minimum of 5 years of consulting engineering experience in the design of high reliability plumbing systems.
- Must take ownership of assignments and work both independently and as part of a large project team.
- Previous Data Center/Mission Critical experience with an architectural/engineering, or engineering consulting firm is desired (similar project experience will be considered).
- Strong desire to stay current with the trends of the fast-paced industry of mission critical.
- Working knowledge of the following standards: Uptime Topology standards, ASHRAE TC 9.9, ASHRAE 90.4, and the ISO standards regarding PUE, CUE, and WUE.
- Working knowledge of the following programs: Bluebeam Revu, AFT Fathom (or a similar piping analysis software), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of Newforma Project Center and/or ProjectWise Document Management Software
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Strongly motivated and showing professional initiative.
- Focused on client outcomes.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Technical and specification writing skills.
- Working knowledge of Revit
- Preference given to local candidates.
- Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) preferred.
- Professional Development
- Active participation in industry organizations is encouraged. Participation in professional development seminars, courses, workshops, or conferences is encouraged and should be approved in advance of attendance.
- Additional industry certifications are also encouraged such as Uptime ATD.
- Maintain continuing education requirements for any certification or license.

Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience
- A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in the discipline to be supported
- Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline to be supported
- Knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Good verbal and written communication skills
