Location: Hybrid - Must work and Live in the state of Michigan

In-office twice a week - 333 S. Grand Ave, Lansing



Purpose: This position serves as the manager for the Disease Intervention Specialist Unit of the MDHHS Viral Hepatitis and Tuberculosis Section. This position is responsible for all of the Unit's administrative and management functions, including the direction and supervision of Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) working on Hepatitis C, Tuberculosis, and other infectious conditions of interest. The candidate will work closely with the MDHHS Viral Hepatitis and Tuberculosis programs to strategically deploy DIS staff for case investigation, linkage to care, technical assistance, data collection and reporting, and other public health response activities. In addition to personnel and program management, the DIS Unit Manager will work to coordinate response among members of the MDHHS team, local health departments, and other partner agencies (e.g., harm reduction agencies).



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide directions to Unit staff, including training, ongoing professional development, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Plan, develop, implement, direct and evaluate program interventions.
  • Train, supervise, monitor and evaluate Unit staff and provide programmatic directions.
  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees.
  • Prepares progress reports, performance metrics and writes for federal grants.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
  • Coordinates and directs health projects in local communities for the promotion and maintenance of public health by implementing and evaluating policies, programs and services that affect the health of the community.
  • Ensures that the diversity of individuals and populations is addressed in policies, programs, and services that affect the health of a community.
  • Represent the best interests of MPHI and MDHHS at all times.
  • All other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree. Preferably in public health, health communication, health policy or a public health-related field such as nursing, epidemiology, health education, social work, public or business administration with a health care concentration.

Experience: Four years of professional experience. Prefer candidates to have two years of working in a public health, healthcare or health education role at an agency such as a local, state, or federal health department, a community-based organization, or health system. The desired candidate should also have experience managing programs and/or projects, as well as experience managing grants.

  • High level of personal integrity, dedication, creativity, flexibility, and initiative.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <25# and involves viewing a screen 70% to 90% of the time. Requires valid vehicle operator's license to perform duties of the position. Frequent deadlines. In-state and out-of- state travel for related meetings.



RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: Direct Management of Disease Intervention Specialists.

IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATION: This position has a direct impact on the quality of services provided by MPHI to MDHHS.This person is a key member of the State's response to emerging infectious diseases threats. The candidate will provide subject matter expertise to local health departments and other partner agencies with respect to case investigation, linkage to care, and prevention for hepatitis C, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases of interest. The position will help ensure that the best evidence-based practices are being implemented to help protect the health of Michigan residents.
