Scope of Work:
Maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. Assist Service Manager in scheduling the work that is to be performed in the shop and/or field. With hands on approach, manages and provides assistance to service mechanics in trouble-shooting problems and provides technical guidance with construction machinery. Ensures repaired equipment receives a quality inspection prior to leaving WPI premises.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Adheres to and utilizes the established Service Department management operating system for assigned work.
- Measures productivity.
- Increases output, evaluates performance and tracking mileage.
- Developes and maintains a training program for all Service Department employees.
- Established departmental goals relevant to each shop activity or department and monitors performance on a monthly basis.
- Meets with District Manager and Parts Manager at least monthly for reviewing activities, financial reports, problems, progress and mutual needs.
- Monitors the capabilities of the entire department regarding customer needs and service requirements for equipment being utilized in the territory.
- Maintains close contact and good relations with customers, may include onsite visits.
- Administers safety program in accordance with existing company, state and federal guidelines. Conducts a monthly safety meeting and completes required reports.
- Prepares and adheres to a the company Salary Plan to provide a timely Performance Reviews and equitable increase program.
- Performs other duties or functions as requested by Management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must High School Diploma or equivalent, accredited trade school graduate preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction and mining machinery industry.
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's)
- Must have a working knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of machinery and engines
- Must have knowledge of safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of equipment.
- Must possess skills in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment, and the use of gas and electric welding equipment
- Must be able to pass and maintain drug and alcohol testing requirement as outlined by WPI's policy
- Must have the ability to read manuals and schematics, rebuild engines and major driveline components.
- Must maintain good client relations and have the ability to communicate with other mechanics about repair work needed.
- Must be able to pass and maintain drug and alcohol testing requirement as outlined by the Department of Transportation.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, and be able to bend and twist several times a day.
- Must have the ability to work flexible hours and days.
- Must be dependable and work independently.
- Must have the ability to supervise and motivate others.
- Must have the ability to effectively evaluate others.
- Must have the ability to effectively operate overhead equipment and have good mechanical skills.
- Must have the ability to effectively operate the tools needed to repair equipment.
- Must be able to furnish all the necessary hand tools and pneumatic accessories.
Working Conditions:
- Typical hours of work Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Weekend hours as necessary.
- May require work in inclement weather conditions and/or hazardous work environments.
