The Sr. Director of Domestic Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety (EOHS) serves as a senior leader within the UnitedHealth Group (UHG) EOHS organization and a key member of the Global Enterprise EOHS leadership team. The role functions as the enterprise business partner for environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, and occupational safety across U.S.-based operations. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Global EOHS, the Sr. Director is responsible for deploying systems, standards, and enterprise programs that ensure environmental stewardship, exposure control, and protection of worker health. The role defines and executes domestic EOHS strategies while supporting business unit leaders and ensuring alignment with enterprise EOHS priorities.

This position follows a hybrid schedule withfour in-office days per week. This is a hybrid role in Eden Prairie or Washington, DC

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute an annual EOHS operational plan aligned to domestic business unit needs
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory agencies
  • Partner directly with business unit leaders to influence EOHS strategy and performance
  • Develop solutions using data, technology, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Demonstrate solid executive presence and emotional intelligence
  • Mentor EOHS professionals and cultivate continuous improvement
  • Monitor and report key EOHS performance metrics
  • Maintain solid relationships with regulatory bodies
  • Serve as a technical expert in health and safety regulations
  • Support enhancement of the UHG EOHS Management System
  • Manage budget and lead domestic compliance initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety experience
  • 5+ years leading high-performing teams
  • Experience influencing leaders across multiple locations
  • Solid analytical skills; EOHS Management Systems experience
  • Microsoft Office proficient

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or safety certification
  • Healthcare or insurance industry experience
  • Experience leading organizational growth and change
  • Excellent communication skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $159,300 to $273,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
