Summary

Manages processes related to the undergraduate nursing programs, which include the Traditional BSN, and Accelerated BSN and Gerontology minor program. Responsible for overseeing curriculum, (both didactic and clinical) ensuring program outcomes are met, monitoring student concerns, progression, mentoring, assigning, hiring and supervising nursing faculty.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations
- Assigns undergraduate faculty responsibilities in collaboration with the Dean and Director of Clinical Placement.
- Participates in the University, SONHS committees and task forces as requested by the Dean following the faculty bylaws.
- Assists nursing faculty in the assessment, revision, and creation of undergraduate curricula as needed to maintain the currency, viability, and marketability of the nursing programs to meet state and national standards and guidelines for accreditation.
- Assists with the preparation of internal reports and reports required by external regulatory and accrediting bodies.
- Oversees the implementation of the undergraduate nursing curricula.
- Works with Dean to monitor and report admission, enrollment, retention, and graduation data for the nursing programs.
- Oversees the evaluation processes' implementation, monitors outcomes, and works to resolve any undergraduate nursing program issues.
- Coordinates and oversees standardized learning and testing products for the undergraduate nursing programs.
- Assures that appropriate academic advising processes for undergraduate nursing students are in place.
- Mentors, supports and evaluates undergraduate nursing faculty in carrying out their responsibilities.
- Assists undergraduate nursing faculty in the resolution of issues that occur.
- Establishes, collaborates and maintains strong working relationships with departments across the university to recruit and retain students in the nursing program
- Responsible for assuring catalog and web pages are relevant and up to date
- In collaboration with the Dean has oversight of department budget.
- Other duties as assigned when needed
Faculty Responsibilities
- Teaching, Service, Scholarship commensurate to faculty position and rank.
- Role involves some teaching responsibilities in the nursing programs depending on the candidate's expertise.
In addition to the responsibilities and duties listed, the Dean of SONHS may request that the Director of Nursing assume other responsibilities as needed. Occasional travel may be required to meetings and/or national conferences.

Qualifications

- Minimum of Master of Science Degree (MSN) in Nursing required, terminal degree preferred. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or another related field.
- Current Illinois State Registered Nurse Licensure.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in nursing practice.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in academic education.
- Experience in academic and/or health care administration preferred.

- Enthusiasm toward serving a diverse student and client population.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in advanced functions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook Office.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to write reports and correspondence and to speak effectively to various constituencies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information and to handle sensitive matters with judgement, tact, and diplomacy.
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and prioritize.
- Able to facilitate teamwork in an environment dealing with a broad range of issues.
