Job Summary

A successful candidate provides holistic support to advance teaching and learning through troubleshooting technical and instructional questions and providing professional development for our Learning Management System (LMS). They will collaborate with faculty and department colleagues to support the design and development of content and learning experiences within our LMS (currently Canvas) that align with best practices and institutional goals.

The Course Production Specialist Sr. supports teaching and learning quality assurance activities, including tracking related professional development and adhering to accessibility guidelines, to foster continuous improvement and support instructional innovation. The candidate will serve on college and District committees.

Essential Functions

40% Responds to and troubleshoots technical and instructional support questions and requests (including help desk, email, phone, and in-person) for the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) used in all course modalities (including hybrid, online, live-online, and in-person courses)

15% Acts as a Canvas LMS Administrator (creates courses and users; copies courses; enrolls users; tests new features and integrations; creates support documentation)

15% Collaborates to support the development of instructional content and learning experiences aligning with best practices and institutional goals, policies, and standards

10% Tracks, processes, and provides reports on Canvas LMS, distance learning, and related training to support continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning

10% Hosts open labs and provides training for faculty in the use of the Canvas LMS to support learners

10% Other responsibilities and opportunities for professional growth (including but not limited to special projects, campus/departmental activities, participation in appropriate training to facilitate completion of job duties, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in instructional design, training and development, educational technology or a directly related field and two (2) years of experience in instructional programs, creating and maintaining web-based online content using HTML, or similar.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Experience administering the Canvas Learning Management (CLM) System with a customer-first focus.
  2. Experience with Enterprise systems, including a Student Information System (SIS) and Google Workspace.
  3. Experience applying Instructional Design or Instructional Technology skills.
  4. Experience training others in the use of educational technology through formal and informal methods.
  5. Experience in creating and maintaining documentation.
  6. Knowledge and application of accessibility standards.
  7. One (1) year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two (2) years. (For internal applicants only)

Positions in this class typically require: Keyboarding, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor office environment.

  • This position's area of responsibility requires working fully in person, with possible periodic remote work.
