The Role

As we continue to grow as one QuidelOrtho we are seeking a Program &Portfolio Management Leader (PPM). The Program & Portfolio Management Leader (PPM) is a collaborative, influential leadership role responsible for developing, governing, and executing an integrated portfolio of various types of projects, strategic initiatives, and capital programs. The role focuses on creating and growing this new function within operations at the Rochester, NY plants. This leader will ensure alignment between the project portfolio, the company's longterm strategies, and the annual operating plan (AOP), including oversight of cost reduction initiatives and major Capex initiatives.

This role requires a combination of engineering expertise, business acumen, program leadership, and quality stewardship-equally comfortable in technical discussions, crossfunctional decisionmaking, and enterpriselevel strategic planning.

The leader will coordinate execution across functions locally and globally, lead highimpact complex projects, and drive organizational change to elevate program execution capabilities. This individual will support projects across product development, design changes and transfers, operational excellence, and largescale facility or manufacturing upgrades.

This position will be onsite in Rochester, NY. (Limited Remote)

The Responsibilities

Portfolio & Program Leadership

  • Develop and project manage a cohesive portfolio of projects, strategic initiatives, and major capital investments.

  • Lead the creation and governance of a clear, balanced capital strategy that supports longterm capabilities, operational efficiency, and enterprise-level strategies.

  • Insure project and investment prioritization aligns with strategic goals, AOP targets, and operational constraints.

  • Build and maintain portfolio dashboards, analytics, and reporting to support datadriven decisionmaking.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide strong engineering and scientific leadership, ensuring programs are grounded in sound technical judgment.

  • Lead highimpact, technically complex programs, including medical device development, engineering changes, and design transfer.

  • Guide teams through technical tradeoffs, risk evaluation, and scenariobased decision processes.

  • Ensure program deliverables meet quality, regulatory, and business requirements.

Execution & Alignment

  • Work with teams across engineering, operations, quality, regulatory, supply chain, and commercial areas to translate highlevel strategic goals into clear, actionable plans.

  • Coordinate work across functions to ensure projects move forward smoothly and teams stay aligned on priorities.

  • Identify key risks, dependencies, and resource gaps early and help teams address them quickly to maintain project momentum.

  • Contribute to annual planning and budgeting by helping define what is needed to execute the company's strategic objectives.

Team Collaboration & Leadership

  • Help improve how teams plan, communicate, and execute work by simplifying processes and eliminating unnecessary complexity.

  • Support the growth and development of project managers, engineers, and other team members through practical coaching and mentorship.

  • May informally or formally supervise others.

  • Lead change initiatives that enhance collaboration, innovation, accountability, and performance.

The Individual

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering; Chemistry; Microbiology; Biochemistry; etc.).

  • 10 years of progressive experience in technical program, project, or portfolio management within regulated industries (medical device experience preferred).

  • Demonstrated success leading crossfunctional, technically complex programs.

  • Technical leadership: experience in a scientific or engineering leadership role with experience guiding, challenging, and mentoring other technical staff.

  • Experience guiding engineering and scientific decisions, navigating tradeoffs, and balancing technical and business considerations.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and executive audiences.

  • Proficiency with program and portfolio management tools (Smartsheet, MS Project, etc.).

  • Proficient with standard software such as but not limited to MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams etc.)

  • Experience with engineering changes, design transfer, feasibility studies, and new product development.

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD, MBA, or equivalent).

  • Experience managing and completing major capital or greenfield projects.

  • Experience creating and growing new teams and functions within an organization.

  • Background in medical device regulatory expectations and design control.

  • Experience building or scaling a PMO or PPM function.

Internal: Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, and other Quality & Compliance teams globally and regionally

External: Suppliers

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory, or warehouse environment and include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples. Up to 75% of the time you will be, standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines.

Salary Transparency

Salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including: education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on that facts and circumstances of each case. Salary range for this position is $102,000 to $133,000 and is bonus eligible. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time) and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
