Planner II - Transportation Role Description: Huitt-Zollars' National Capital Region office in Alexandria, VA has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Planner II position that could be located in Alexandria or Philadelphia PA. This position will work on a wide range of planning and urban design projects collecting information, engaging with the public, developing recommendations, creating documents, and presenting results. Huitt-Zollars does a wide range of planning work, including transit and transportation planning, transit-oriented development, land use, and comprehensive planning. Our recent projects include a bus network redesign in Fort Worth, transit planning projects in Philadelphia, a parks and greenway master plan in Houston, a regional rail study and transit-oriented community guidelines. We are passionate about what we do, and we are looking for a team member who is similarly excited about creating better cities for everyone. *CANDIDATES WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED WITH A COVER LETTER ATTACHED* Location: Alexandria, Virginia Reports to: Vice President/Managing Principal Employment Type: 40 FT Hours Compensation Type: Salary Education: Bachelor's Or Master's Degree in Planning, or related field, or equivalent in education or experience. Duties:
- Research existing conditions, goes on site visits, compiles data and completes GIS analyses, creates maps and graphics, and summarizes issues.
- Develops information, presentations, and other materials for the public, creates surveys, helps plan and organize public meetings, and facilitates discussions.
- Works with an interdisciplinary team to define strategies and identify recommendations.
- Develops designs for transportation networks, streets, bikeways, transit stops, urban spaces, parks, buildings, public facilities and other elements at a planning level.
- Creates GIS summaries, maps, plans, sections, renderings, diagrams, and other graphics.
- Writes for reports, memos, fact sheets, and other documents.
- Contact with clients, consultants and stakeholders.
- Assists in preparing presentations and documents, including preparing graphic materials for presentations or documents, assembling a presentation or document, and proposing an outline for a presentation or document.

- Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process.
- Productively collaborates with PMs and encourages teams to achieve success and camaraderie amongst each other.
- Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Assists PM on ensuring that quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
- Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
- Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the PM on assigned project tasks.
- Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects.
- Complete assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality.
- Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish tasks.
- Assists PM as needed on work planning. Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Assists PM on ensuring proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
- Assists PMs as needed on reviewing project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Assists PM in leading successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).

Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Planning or related field, or equivalent in education or experience, Master's degree in Planning can substitute for some years of experience.
- Previous Experience: 3 to 5 years.
- Registration is not required.
- Huitt-Zollars supports its staff in pursuing and maintaining relevant registrations and credentials, including AICP and LEED.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents in English as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to respond effectively and sensitively to issues and a wide range of perspectives.
- Ability to work in a second language, particularly one that is spoken in the areas we work in, is welcome.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks.
- Ability to research and compile information.
- Ability to create maps, diagrams, and other graphics.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, type/key-in data
- Able to walk project site while wearing personal protective equipment
- May lift and carry up to 25 pounds at times
- The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
- Employee may be asked to walk on uneven terrain
- May work in extreme weather conditions
