Description The Department of International Literary and Cultural Studies at Tufts University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assisstant Teaching Professor position in Chinese language, beginning September 1, 2026. The initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance, programmatic needs, and available funding. Responsibilities include teaching Chinese (Mandarin) language courses from introductory through advanced levels (typically six courses or sections per academic year, with reductions in teaching the first two years per the CBA), holding regular office hours, participating in curriculum development and programmatic service, and contributing to department and university services, including advising and committee work. Tufts seeks candidates who demonstrate teaching excellence, pedagogical innovation, ongoing professional development, and a strong spirit of collaboration. Qualifications Required qualifications include a Master's degree in Chinese language, linguistics, language pedagogy (TCFL/TCSOL), second language acquisition, or a closely related field; native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese; high-level fluency in English; and prior experience teaching Chinese at the college or post-secondary level. Demonstrated excellence in teaching is essential. A Ph.D. and experience with technology-enhanced language teaching, instructional material development, and professional engagement are preferred.
