Position Overview
The Basic Readiness Response (BRS) Security Police Officer (SPO) overall responsibilities include protection of special nuclear material, classified matter, personnel, and government property. Respond to security emergencies and ensure that Department of Energy's (DOE) mission requirements are maintained. The BRS SPO must meet the following requirements:
- The following pre-hire qualifications must be completed prior to receiving an interview: Complete an initial one-mile qualification run with a maximum qualifying time of 8 minutes 30 seconds. Complete an initial qualification 40-yard dash from the prone position in 8.5 seconds or less.
- After initial qualification, maintain the ability to run one-half mile with a maximum qualifying time of 4 minutes 40 seconds, and a 40-yard dash from the prone position in 8.5 seconds or less as defined in 10 CFR 1046.12, Medical, Physical Readiness Requirements for Protective Force Personnel.
- Complete and pass initial medical screening to include psychological examination, vision test, hearing test, drug screening and all other requirements as defined in 10 CFR 1046.12, Medical, Physical Readiness Requirements for Protective Force Personnel.
- Must have or complete, the DOE's Basic Security Police Officer Training (BSPOT) or Tactical Response Force (TRF) 100 course.
- Must meet the applicable DOE firearms qualification every six months under daylight and reduced lighting conditions as defined in 10 CFR 1046.16, SPO Physical Readiness Qualification Standards and Procedures. Must meet the DOE firearms qualification standard(s) and fitness requirements during DOE, surveys, or as directed by the Officially Designated Federal Security Authority (ODFSA) as defined in 10 CFR 1046.16, SPO Physical Readiness Qualification Standards and Procedures.
- Must be able to understand and implement departmental and site policies and procedures governing post and patrol operations, access control, and site protection strategies.
- Must have or obtain a DOE Q clearance and a compliant state driver's license.
- Safely operate motor vehicles.
- Apply basic tactics (to include use of intermediate force weapons) to engage and neutralize armed adversaries.
- Authorized to make limited arrest and use of force as defined in Part 10 CFR 1047, Limited Arrest and Use of Force by Protective Force Officers pursuant to section 161.k. of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954.
- Perform physically demanding work under adverse weather and temperature conditions (extreme heat and extreme cold) on slippery or hazardous surfaces with the prolonged use of protective equipment and garments such as bullet-resistant garments, as required by site protection strategies. * Effectively executes the duties described in Post and Patrol Orders, and other PF procedures.
- Performs work safely, in accordance with established policies.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must have a High School diploma or its equivalent.
- Ability to run one-half mile with a maximum qualifying time of 4 minutes 40 seconds, and a 40-yard dash from the prone position in 8.5 seconds or less
- Department of Defense experience in good standing (any branch of service or MOS)
- Certification in law enforcement and in good standing
- Must possess a valid operator's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q security clearance
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficient PC skills including Microsoft software
Additional Preferred Skills/Certifications
- A college degree in a related field (Criminal Justice or Security)
- Federal or State corrections officers
- Department of Defense (Military not Civilian) experience
- Certified law enforcement experience
- Basic Security Police Officer Training (BSPOT) Certification
- Tactical Response Force (TRF) Certification
