EMS is the largest and most academically diverse division in the School of Science and Engineering. The Division includes the Faculties of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Chemistry (CHEM), and Physics & Astronomy (P&A). EMS fosters cross-disciplinary collaborations in both research and education. The ECE programs in the EMS division offer the EAC-accredited BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The Faculty of ECE plays a key role in several new interdisciplinary programs, including Biomedical Engineering, Cybersecurity, Materials Science, and Sustainable Energy Technologies. The current ECE faculty carry out frontier research and teaching in Electromagnetics, Optical and Quantum Physics and Engineering, Semiconductors and Next-Generation Electronics, Internet of Things and Future of Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Electric Power, Renewable Energy, and Control Systems, Signals, Systems, and Communications, Bioelectronics and Intelligent Health Systems.

Job Description

The Division of Energy, Matter, and Systems (EMS) in the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking applications for a non-tenure-track teaching faculty position in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Assistant Teaching Professor level, to start in the Fall Semester 2026. Candidates with backgrounds and expertise in microelectronics, digital and analog circuit design, computer engineering, hardware description language (VHDL and Verilog), engineering computation and programming, and all fundamental areas of ECE are encouraged to apply. Candidates with backgrounds and aspirations in teaching both basic and advanced ECE courses, particularly those with project-based approaches, will be given preference.

The successful candidates are expected to (1) develop and teach fundamental and specialized courses in ECE; (2) have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and transfer students; (3) engage in departmental, school, or university services appropriate to the position; and (4) advance the goals and strategic plan of UMKC.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline as of the start date. Candidates with backgrounds and expertise in microelectronics, digital and analog circuit design, computer engineering, hardware description languages (VHDL and Verilog), engineering computation, and programming, as well as all fundamental areas of ECE, are encouraged to apply. Candidates with backgrounds and aspirations in the basic and applied teaching of ECE courses, particularly those with project-based approaches, will be given preference.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a nine-month, benefit-eligible, full-time (1.0) ranked faculty appointment eligible for promotion.
