I. JOB OVERVIEW






Job Description Summary:
The Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service aims to integrate civic engagement into George Washington University's educational work. We focus GW's resources to meet community needs beyond the campus, promote active citizenship in a diverse democracy, and enhance teaching, learning, and scholarship at GW.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost of the Nashman Center, the Program Manager for School and Community Partnerships will oversee all aspects of this program. The incumbent will perform the following:

  • Recruits, screens, and selects more than 12 AmeriCorps VISTAs in coordination with DC Public Schools and relevant nonprofits
  • Is responsible for the year-round training and professional development of the VISTAs. Supervises VISTAs in coordination with site supervisors
  • Reports and coordinates with the funder Corporation for National and Community Service.
  • Manages reporting and partnership with DC Public Schools, for GW, and for additional funders.
  • Coordinates with staff and programs at the Nashman Center and other offices at GW to facilitate greater service partnerships.
  • Acts as the primary liaison with DC Public Schools personnel at the schools and in the central office.
  • Is responsible for organizing the VISTA program to meet the goals set forth in the grant proposal.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that the program and the AmeriCorps VISTA members are in compliance with federal rules and guidelines.
  • Participates in fundraising for program support and potential expansion.
  • Writes and communicates with various professional and family audiences.
  • Leads grant writing and monitoring.
  • Creates and manages program budgets.
  • Liaises with regional and/or national organizations as appropriate.
  • Participates in and presents at conferences and meetings locally and nationally
  • Coordinates and/or assists in performing special project assignments as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning additional responsibilities that are logically related to the position.
  • Please note that this is a limited-term appointment that will last until April 27, 2027. The appointment may be extended at the discretion of the department and the availability of funds.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in partnering with public schools to implement community service or service-learning programs is desired.
  • Work experience as an AmeriCorps VISTA, VISTA supervisor, or sponsor preferred.
  • Experience in organizing a program in schools or communities to achieve measurable results is desired.
  • Working experience with students and faculty in a higher education environment is preferred.
  • Successfully navigating race, culture, and language differences to build partnerships and coalitions that get things done.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team

Hiring Range $27.58 - $37.91
