Mott MacDonald is looking for an Assistant Resident Engineer to join our ever-expanding construction management team in the New York City area. We are currently looking for a professional with experience in the provision of construction management services for water/wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and pipeline construction projects.

Job responsibilities include:



  • Assist in the on-site delivery of construction management (CM) services.
  • Support and supervise staff of CM professionals, including Construction Field Office Engineers, Inspectors, and other CM professionals as necessary.
  • Assist in the implementation of construction safety requirements and confirm that construction contractor safety programs are submitted, approved, and followed by all parties involved in the project.
  • Support the implementation of schedule, cost, quality, communication, decision-making, and information tools and processes across the project.
  • Assist in program and project controls activities such as schedule control, cost control, change management, risk management, and reporting tools.
  • Participate in project meetings with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Monitor the construction contract progress and assist in preparing and processing all necessary payment documents certifying the installed quantities.
  • Review, analyze, and assist in negotiating construction cost estimates, change orders, and contractor claims.
  • Work to build a cooperative partnership between clients, contractors, and all stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of project issues and the overall success of the project.
  • Assist in the enforcement of contract documents, including plans and specifications.
  • Understand start-up and commissioning plans and identify associated resources as necessary.



The successful candidate will require the following:



  • Bachelor's degree in construction engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related degree.
  • 5+ years of experience performing construction management in water/wastewater projects.
  • Registration: NYS PE (Required), CCM (Preferred).
  • OSHA safety training.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers to prepare reports using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working for municipal agencies or utility infrastructure organizations, such as NYCDEP (preferred).
  • Ability to respond proactively in a high-paced environment and willingness to adjust and respond effectively to changes.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Required to work 100% in the field locations.
  • Knowledge of construction management processes, means, and methods and understanding of all facets of the construction process.
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulations, NYC local and national building codes, and NYCDEP Procedures and Processes.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Working knowledge of construction management software packages (Primavera P6, eBuilder).

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

The expected salary for this position is $131,000 - $165,000.
