Essential Job Duties
The Extension Specialist - Quality & Management Systems delivers high-impact technical assistance, training, and program leadership focused on quality and management systems. The role blends technical consulting, facilitation, project management, and service development to support manufacturers and organizations across North Carolina.

The Specialist independently leads client engagements, facilitates public and on-site courses, and contributes to the design, delivery, and expansion of IES quality-focused services. This position requires strong technical expertise, facilitation skills, leadership capability, and the ability to balance client service with program operations and impact reporting.
Core Competencies & Responsibilities
1. Facilitation & Client Engagement

Provide hands-on technical assistance, coaching, and facilitation to organizations implementing, maintaining, or improving quality and management systems, including ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and related standards. Lead and support activities such as system implementation, internal auditing, corrective action, and sustainment, while interpreting standards and tailoring practical, sustainable, client-owned solutions. Facilitate effective face-to-face and virtual engagements-including public courses, on-site training, workshops, and client meetings-using adult learning best practices. Assess client needs, guide organizations through improvement pathways, present content clearly across formal and informal learning environments, and build trust with varied audiences by adapting facilitation approaches to varying skill levels and organizational cultures.

2. Program & Thought Leadership

Provide support for one or more quality-focused products, services, or initiatives within IES. Maintain awareness of IES offerings, industry trends, and best practices to align services with client and statewide needs. Contribute to service development, continuous improvement of offerings, and collaboration across IES teams to strengthen program impact.

3. Business Development & Outreach

Promote the full range of IES services through client interactions, on-site visits, partner networking, and presentations. Identify opportunities to connect clients with additional IES resources that support long-term improvement and organizational success. Represent NC State University professionally with clients, partners, and stakeholders.

4. Program Operations & Impact Reporting

Manage administrative and operational responsibilities that support effective service delivery, including project scoping, scheduling, Salesforce updates, travel documentation, and required reporting. Support data collection and evaluation processes used to measure and communicate the economic and operational impact of IES programs to state, federal, and local stakeholders.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support outreach, promotion, and cross-selling of IES services.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of training materials and service offerings.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with relevant professional experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 with hands-on implementation experience.

  • Quality management systems expertise

Preferred Qualifications


  • IATF 16949 experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of automotive core tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA)
  • Experience with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and/or AS9100

  • Must have a valid Drivers License and the ability to obtain a NC Driver's License within the first 60 days of starting.
