About the Job:
Primary responsibility of this position is to manage the business license compliance for Vulcan Materials Company by working closely with our third-party compliance partner. As part of the Indirect Tax function, this position also offers broad exposure to other compliance and reporting responsibilities that may include 1) severance and excavation tax, 2) Federal and state excise tax, 3) sales and use tax audit support, and 4) property tax bill processing and audit support. Candidate must be detail and deadline oriented.
What You'll Do:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Main point of contact for our 3rd party provider to manage the full life cycle of business licenses - from opening and closing accounts to ensuring timely renewals for the business.
- Communicate regularly with the 3rd party provider to provide timely updates of information needed for business licenses, coordinate preparation of business license applications, and follow up on application status, as needed.
- Review business license payment funding request and generate corresponding accounting entries (EDI experience is a plus).
- Gather and review source data for gross receipts, severance, excise, and excavation tax return calculations.
- Prepare severance tax, excavation tax, and excise tax returns monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- Assist the Indirect Tax function with special projects and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
Skills You'll Need:
Education, Experience, & Skills Required:
- Bachelor's degree with a business major, preferably Accounting or Finance.
- Ideal candidate will have two years of indirect tax experience or business license compliance experience.
- Proficient in Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite, including a comfortable level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Ideal candidate will have experience with VLOOKUP, Pivot tables, and formulas.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, communicate effectively and work well with minimal supervision.
- Experience working with systems such as Oracle or Vertex.
