Title: Instructional Designer

Location: Birmingham, AL 35243
Work Schedule: Hybrid (In-office 4 days per week; additional in-office time as needed)

Duration: 9+ months (Possible Extension)

Pay Range: $40/hr. - $43/hr.

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Instructional Designer to join our Training Support Services team in Birmingham, AL. This role applies instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and multimedia development expertise to create high-quality learning solutions that drive organizational performance and business outcomes.

The Instructional Designer will partner closely with business stakeholders, subject matter experts (SMEs), and instructors to translate learning and performance objectives into engaging instructor-led, virtual, blended, and digital learning experiences. Deliverables may include eLearning modules, facilitator and participant guides, job aids, and performance support tools. All solutions must be instructionally sound, accessible, engaging, and aligned with established standards, templates, and branding guidelines.



Key Responsibilities



  • Lead curriculum planning and development, including defining learner outcomes, content design, instructional strategies, and delivery formats.
  • Design and develop learning solutions using proven instructional design methodologies for instructor-led, virtual, blended, and digital formats.
  • Create eLearning modules using tools such as Articulate 360 and other development platforms.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design best practices across technical and non-technical subject areas (e.g., power generation, power delivery, construction, compliance, safety, and business functions).
  • Ensure learning materials meet accessibility standards and system requirements for various learning technologies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, SMEs, instructors, and business leaders to develop and refine training materials.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, executing project plans to meet timelines and budgets with minimal supervision.
  • Upload, maintain, and organize course documentation and materials within systems such as SharePoint and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Maintain and update courses in alignment with governance processes and evolving business needs.
  • Research and recommend innovative learning technologies, including AI applications in instructional design environments.
  • Provide leadership to project teams when appropriate and proactively report on progress and outcomes.



Required Qualifications

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.



Experience:



  • 3+ years of experience in instructional design or related field.
  • Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360), animation software, and similar development tools.
  • Experience managing projects and meeting deadlines independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with MS Office.
  • Experience working in collaborative, team-oriented environments.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and relationship management skills.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience delivering training in technical and non-technical disciplines such as power generation, power delivery, construction, compliance, safety, or business functions.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and narration software.
  • Experience implementing AI tools within instructional design workflows.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
