Overview
Provides surgical technology to direct and indirect care and service under the supervision of a surgical technologist. Assists the surgeon and Surgical technologist and performs operative/invasive procedures. Facilitates the daily operations of surgical services by ensuring instruments and related accessories are appropriate to meet department needs. Provides support function to facilitate the daily operations of patient care and department needs Qualifications Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA), Education: , Work Experience: Responsibilities Surgical Technologist Extern Communicates and collaborates with others. Counts are timely and actions reflect clear understanding of the dual responsibility with circulating RN. Preparation for surgeon specific operative/invasive procedure that's timely, accurate, effective and efficient. Sets up sterile field and is scrubbed prior to patient entering the room. Scrubs on simple to complex procedures for a variety of specialties. Able to "run mayo" independently. Is prepared for sequencing, i.e., clamp, cut and tie. Attentive to case, pays attention to subtle cues and responds appropriately. Performs in first scrub role independently. Performs case closing activates such as dressing application, transfer and turnover. Monitors the sterile field at all times and points out contaminations. Picks cases, suture, instruments and supplies per surgeon preference cards. Opens sterile supplies without contaminating. Open instruments sets, verifying that all indicators are sterilized appropriately. Completes MedCerts coursework within designated 18 weeks. Completes 125 surgical scrubs as determined by course requirements. Successfully passes practicum provided by Surgical technologist educator. Instrument Technician Properly wraps and prepares instrument trays for sterilization. Wash instrument trays. Wipe down case carts/run case cart washer. Load and run sterilizer. Demonstrates flexibility, speed, and fluidity in response to rapidly changing needs. Anticipates and meets need to ensure cases are not delayed. Collaborates with staff to ensure availability of instruments and supplies. Follows established procedures for care and handling of instruments. Operates reprocessing/sterilization equipment (sterilizers, aerators, ultrasonic, etc.). Performs all sterilization/disinfection monitoring. Uses manufacturer's instructions for all steps of the reprocessing process. Labels instruments/supplies accurately. Collaborates with Surgical Technologist, RN's and Surgical Instrument lead to ensure appropriate functional resources are available. Monitors integrity of instruments to reduce loss and/or damage. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $17per hour - $17per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
