THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is searching for a Driver License Examiner with a CDL to join their Rockview team! This position serves as a PennDot Driver License Examiner and plays a significant role in promoting highway safety by conducting standardized examinations to evaluate the skill and competence of both commercial (CDL) and non-commercial driver license applicants. When not conducting testing, the position also assists with the processing of counter customers at the Driver License Center, with a critical component being the examination of identity documents to combat identity theft and fraud.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Driver License Examiner, you will:
- Determine the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, and the mechanical conditions of vehicles for conformance to the established standards necessary for safe driving, and administer telebinocular, color perception, and other tests of vision.
- Administer non-commercial and commercial driver license knowledge examinations to individuals to ensure they have a knowledge and understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signs.
- Administer the non-commercial and commercial driver license pre-trip, skills and driving tests in accordance with Department standards, examine applications, registrations, and permits for possible irregularities and fraud, determine vehicle characteristics to ensure appropriate tests are administered, and check motor vehicles for inspection stickers, lights, windshield wipers, and other mechanical features.
- Examine paperwork including applications; birth certificates; Social Security cards; marriage certificates; court documents; proof of residency documents; documents issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service, Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. State Department; and documents issued by foreign countries for authenticity.

- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and travel as needed

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
- Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
- This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
- All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
- This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
