DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Wildlife Biologist 3, you will be making decisions as a member of a regional supervisory team. You will be responsible for developing and monitoring an assigned budget, including the use and monitoring of overtime for yourself and subordinates. Work involves implementing the Wildlife Management Program based on needs and conditions within established protocol, such as timing of fieldwork, equipment, and personnel needed; providing technical assistance to private landowners, public land managers, the region director, and regional and bureau staff; and facilitating animal tagging and banding programs as well as wildlife population surveys conducted by regional field biologists and other staff. You will have the opportunity to coordinate bear check station data collection using assigned protocols and represent the region at meetings and/or on committees related to wildlife/habitat management and conservation. Additional responsibilities include:
- Assisting with wildlife trapping and relocation efforts
- Evaluating habitat status and the wildlife population response to habitat enhancement and management activities
- Performing employee performance reviews
- Approving leave and work schedules for subordinate employees
- Serving as liaison between the Bureau of Wildlife Management and your assigned region
- Assisting regional forestry and land management staff

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Alternate work schedule (AWS) may be available.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Wildlife Biologist 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of technical wildlife research and evaluation experience and three years of professional experience in wildlife management research, and thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, animal or plant ecology, zoology, botany, or a closely related field, and six college credits in statistics or biometry; or
- Three years of professional experience in wildlife management research, and a bachelor's degree that includes thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, animal or plant ecology, zoology, botany, or a closely related field, and six college credits in statistics or biometry; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes thirty-six college credits in wildlife management, wildlife biology, animal or plant ecology, zoology, botany, or a closely related field, and six college credits in statistics or biometry.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
