Description

The Molex Reliability Lab is seeking a versatile Lab Test Technician to support our crossfunctional engineering teams. In this role, you will assemble and prepare fiber optic cables and connectors, perform polishing, cleaving, endface prep, and testing, and assist with hand soldering, visual inspection, dimensional analysis, crosssectioning, and sample fabrication.

You will conduct handson construction analysis, sample preparation, testing, troubleshooting, and rootcause failure analysis for interconnect solutions across multiple Molex business units throughout the product development cycle.

Responsibilities

* Prepare, inspect, clean, and evaluate fiber optic cable and connector assemblies through various optical, environmental, & mechanical tests using manual/automated tools and equipment

* Perform product validation testing on singlemode and multimode simplex and multi-fiber optic cable and connector assemblies in accordance with industry standards and customer specifications

* Support construction analysis and sample preparation involving optical interconnect components.

* Build/modify/prep connector assemblies, cable assemblies, modules, PC boards, load boards, etc. for various mechanical, environmental, & electrical tests using manual/automated tools and hand soldering equipment/techniques

* Document and communicate test data, while applying critical thinking to properly analyze results

* Visual Examination - HD Camera, 2D and 3D imaging, Stitch Imaging

* Cross Sections - potting, cutting, grinding, polishing, etching, and visual examination

* Glow Wire, Nichrome wire and needle flame testing with visual examination

* Work closely with various project managers to ensure efficient and timely project deliverables to customers

* Develop and maintain standard operating procedure documents to ensure repeatable and reproducible test methods/results

Skills and Abilities

* Familiarity with fiber optic handling, routing, cleaning, and inspection procedures, including proper care of optical surfaces.

* Proficient in reading and executing test plans

* Analytical ability to apply logical reasoning, test assumptions, observe results and make corrections

* Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and in a team

Requirements

* High School Diploma or equivalent and 3+ years' work experience in a related field; OR an Associate's degree and 1+ years' work experience in a related field required

* Working knowledge of passive and active fiber optic connectors, cables, and/or solutions

* Understanding of the principles of fiber optic technology, testing concepts, failure modes, construction and connector types

* Proficient using optical lab equipment such backreflection meters, optical test systems, attenuators, OTDRs, switches, interferometers, fusion splicers, etc.

* Analytical ability to troubleshoot, apply logical reasoning, test assumptions, observe results and make corrections for purposes of problem solving

* Troubleshooting skills of passive fiber optic components to aid in root cause failure analysis

Preferred

* Understanding of Telcordia GR-326-CORE and GR-1435-CORE industry standards

* Ability to perform routine maintenance on optical test equipment

* Experience with general test lab equipment (i.e. microscopes, digital imaging software, environmental chambers, mechanical integrity test fixtures, data acquisition systems, etc.)

* Experience with fiber optic termination techniques and operation of optical test equipment is a plus.

* Experience with measurement tools (i.e. drop gauge, caliper, crimp micrometer, dimensional measurements using microscope software)

* Experience using lab equipment such as milli/micro-ohmmeter, microscopes, continuity meter, multimeter, etc.

* Working knowledge of interconnect systems, twisted pair, coaxial conductors, etc.

* Troubleshooting skills of interconnect systems to aid in root cause failure analysis

For this role, we anticipate paying $63,000- $73,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
