Job Summary

The Supervisor Central Supply Sterile performs a wide range of duties including coordinating inventory and ordering of medical supplies, equipment, and surgical implants. Supervises day-to-day operations on the SPD floor, managing and understanding departmental workflow to ensure timely completion of tasks and effective follow-through on requests. Works with, guides, and directs SPD Technicians in all aspects of inventory control, professional communication, case cart management, and utilization of medical supplies and movable medical equipment within Monument Health.

Maintains working knowledge of sterilization processes according to JCAHO and AAMI standards. Monitors operations, listens for opportunities for improvement, and implements process improvements to maximize efficiency while minimizing quality issues and feedback. Promotes organizational and departmental goals and objectives in accordance with established policies and procedures. Performs the role of SPD Supervisor in their absence. Demonstrates ongoing growth and development of self through active self-reflection, personal competency development strategies, and role modeling the "Grow myself, grow my team, and grow Monument Health (G3) Leadership Competencies" to promote the Monument Health vision and mission.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Assists direct supervisor in effective fiscal budgeting and management of the department. Assists in ensuring supplies and equipment are maintained.
  • Assists in completing employee time cards according to personnel policies.
  • Assists in completing performance appraisals according to personnel policies.
  • Assists with the management of the department and directly manages departmental personnel. Creates an effective learning environment by promoting a positive and professional workplace.
  • Supervises and coordinates day-to-day operations on the SPD floor, ensuring workflow efficiency, task prioritization, and timely completion of assignments.
  • Demonstrates strong professional communication with staff, leadership, and clinical partners to ensure clarity, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Consistently evaluates departmental procedures; responsible for quality improvement; responds to and coordinates product recalls of medical equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Monitors departmental processes and performance, actively listening for improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency while minimizing quality concerns and negative feedback.
  • Consistently teaches staff and departmental preceptors on a formal and informal basis. Assists the SPD Supervisor in providing monthly department-specific in-services.
  • Contributes and coordinates with the SPD management team to facilitate daily departmental duties, functions, and procedures throughout Monument Health.
  • Coordinates and implements in-services for new equipment and products when necessary.
  • Coordinates and monitors case cart management to ensure accurate picking, staging, and delivery processes.
  • Manages the annual physical inventory.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required

Education - High School Dimploma/GED in General Studies

Preferred

Certification - Cert Reg Central Svc Tech - International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management

Work Experience - 3+ years Inventory Management Experience, 3+ years Sterile Processing Experience

Physical Requirements: Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
