This role focuses on researching and developing new raw materials and colors. Supporting the Fabric & Color Manager, it involves studying seasonal trends in both global and domestic markets, identifying and sharing new fabrics, yarns, techniques, and colors that align with sourcing strategies and brand aesthetics. The position also assists with Softlines and Home Textiles.
What You'll be Doing:
- Support fabric and color projects under the direction of the Fabric & Color Manager by participating in market research, competitive analysis, and trend forecasting for future fabric and color needs.
- Assist with sourcing and research initiatives, including fabric sourcing and specialty topics related to textiles, yarns, and fiber technologies.
- Manage and review fabric quality submissions with PD Managers.
- Maintain organization of fabric swatches in the fabric library.
- Prepare relevant seasonal fabrications for the Fabric Open House and Fabric Sign Off Meetings.
- Create and update fabric materials and color requests in the PLM library.
- Share seasonal color palette details, place orders for color standards, and file them accordingly.
- Maintain and update fabric development charts, raw material information, and seasonal calendars.
- Work with PD to utilize seasonal fabric liabilities.
- Approve lap dips when necessary and communicate color requirements, problems, updates, or improvements to overseas offices.
- Support cross-functional collaboration by serving as a liaison between PD, Global Sourcing, and QA teams for fabric and color decisions as well as related issues and challenges.
- Assist with special projects involving textiles, yarns, and fiber technology innovation as needed.
- Stay current with industry terminology, color communication, and lighting conditions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the Product Development teams.
What You Bring with You (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design.
- 1-5 years of experience in Apparel Fashion Design or Apparel Product Development.
- Must have a strong ability to identify fashion colors and trends.
- Keen eye for design with the ability to identify relevant trends.
- Capability to handle multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; intermediate proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite; knowledge of PLM is a plus.
- Skilled in sketching technical designs using Adobe Illustrator.
- Excellent visual, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to present information effectively to an audience.
- Clear understanding of standardized lighting conditions, proper terminology for communicating color, and familiarity with color communication software.
